The University Center of Lake County delivers higher education programs to the citizens of LakeCounty. Through the collaborative effort of our member institutions, the UniversityCenter provides a number of bachelor’s completion programs as well as graduate and professional development opportunities. Courses are offered in our Grayslake and Waukegan facilities, at the Great LakesNavalTrainingCenter, and through the convenience of online study. Program Description
This cohort-style program leads to Illinois Type 04 Teacher Certification, allowing graduates of the program to work in Illinois public schools with children in pre-K through third grade.
Program Highlights
Classes are held at the University Center—Grayslake.Two clinical practice (student teaching) components are required: one at the primary level and one at the preprimary level.
Our graduates are currently employed in public schools in Chicago, Waukegan, Mundelein, Zion, Lake Forest, Evanston, & Rockford.
Clinical placements will be in Lake County.
Admission Requirements
- Students may take courses with KendallCollege before being officially admitted into the Program
- Students may complete the first two years of the degree at the College of Lake County
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
- At least 24 semester or 36 quarter credit hours of transferring credit
Application Procedure
- Submit completed application with a $50 application fee and completed personal statement.
- Submit official transcripts from all previous college work (transfer students with less than 24 credit hours must also submit high school transcripts and ACT or SAT scores).
Graduation Requirements
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above
- 180 quarter credit hours
- Completion of at least 48 of the required 180 quarter credit hours with KendallCollege
- General Education Core – 60 quarter credit hours
- Early Childhood Education major requirements – 93 quarter credit hours
- Concentration in Special Education – 12 quarter credit hours
- Completion of Clinical Practice – 12 quarter credit hours OR Completion of Internships for non-certification – 8 quarter credit hours
- Additional coursework to complete the balance of 180 quarter credit hours
- Illinois Certification Testing requirements: Illinois Basic Skills Test, Early Childhood Education Content Test, Assessment of Professional Teaching
