The Graduation Ceremony for international graduates will take place at the Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on Sunday 15 March 2009. Your ceremony will take place at 10.15am in the Grand Ballroom and will be followed by light refreshments.

Ordering your Graduation Tickets

If you areattending your graduation ceremony, you need to order your tickets by completing Sections 1, 2 or 3 and 4 of the enclosed Reply Form. We would appreciate receipt of your completed Reply Form with your payment byFriday 5December 2008, before which date you will receive a discount (please see Cost of Tickets for Graduates and Guests).

If you are not attending your graduation ceremony, simply complete Sections 1 and 5 of the Reply Form and return it by any of the methods shown on the following page. Your certificate will be forwarded to your home address as detailed on your "My Student Record" page online, please ensure that these details are kept up to date.

It is very important that you complete all your personal details on the Reply Form/Online booking form, particularly your email address as this will be our first point of contact.

Cost of Tickets for Graduates and Guests

Graduates who return their reply form and pay for their graduation ceremony by Friday 5 December 2008 will be eligible for a discount. The minimum charge for the ceremony is £55.00(including discount) and includes:

  • tickets for graduate and up to 2 guests
  • a souvenir graduation programme
  • a group photograph of graduates on your course
  • light refreshments, which will be served in the foyer area outside the Ballroom following the ceremony

Further guests are welcome and extra tickets are priced at£20.00 per guest. Please indicate on your Reply Form how many extra tickets you would like.

Payment Options

You can pay for your graduation tickets by cash, cheque, bankers draft or credit card. Instructions on how to make payment are detailed on your reply forms.

Collection of Guest Tickets

Please note tickets will NOT be posted. Tickets will be available for collection as follows:

  • On Saturday 14 March 2009, at theticket collection desk located by the main staircase in the Lower Lobby foyer of the Shangri-La Hotel from 4.00pm -5.30pm.
  • Alternatively, collection of tickets can be made at the ticket collection desk on Sunday 15 March 2009. The desk will be open between 8.00am - 10.00am and 12.00pm - 2.00pm.

Timetable and Procession Order

The ceremony timetable and the ceremony procession order will be posted on the website by the end of February 2009 and will be displayed by the ticket collection desk on the day. On arrival at the Shangri-La Hotel you must report to the ticket collection desk where you will collect your guest tickets and be directed to the Robing and Photography rooms. Graduates will be required to enter the Grand Ballroom in procession and so must be robed and ready to line up, in course and family name order, outside the Grand Ballroom at 9.30am. Guests should be seated in the Grand Ballroom by 9.45am. The procession will commence at 9.50am.

Academic Dress

You are asked to dress in a manner befitting this important occasion. Ede and Ravenscroft (M) Sdn Bhdis Sheffield Hallam University’s official supplier and the only gown hire company in Kuala Lumpur who will provide the correct gown for your graduation ceremony. Please order your graduation gown directly from Ede & Ravenscroft (M) Sdn Bhd by completing and returning the attached order form to the address shown in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Please order your robe as soon as you have been informed that you have successfully completed your course, by completing the enclosed order form.

The cost of hire of the robe, hood and hat/mortar board is RM 85.00 (Degree) and RM 110.00 (Masters).There is also a RM 100.00 refundable deposit. Robes should be collected from the Lower Lobby area on the day of the ceremony between 7.00am and 9.15am.

Robes should be returned to Ede and Ravenscroft in the B2Foyer area outside the Grand Ballroom by 1.15pm on the day of the ceremony.

Photographs

Foto Prime is the University's official photographer for the graduation ceremony.

  • All graduates will receive a complimentary 8x12 inch group photograph which will be taken after the graduation ceremony in the Grand Ballroom.
  • A photograph will also be taken of each graduate receiving their certificate on the stage and purchase of this is optional at RM 60.00(this is for 1 copy in 4R, 5R and 8R size)
  • A posed photograph can be taken in the studio if you wish, which will be set up in the Lower Lobby area of the hotel, and purchase of this is optional at RM 100.00(this is for 1 pose only, with 3 copies in 4R size and 1 copy in 8R size).

Parking

The Shangri-La Hotel has a large car park where you will be able to park on the day of the ceremony. Parking is currently charged at a set priceof RM 8.00for the whole day.

Students in Debt to the University

This invitation is issued subject to you being in good financial standing with Sheffield Hallam University. If you have any debts to the University as at 31 January 2009, related to your programme of study, you will not be permitted to attend your graduation ceremony, nor will you be eligible to receive your certificate until such debts have been cleared. Data Protection Statement

Graduation is a memorable public celebration of your achievements. Guests at the ceremony will be presented with a souvenir graduation programme and graduates will be announced as they cross the stage. The University will be celebrating Graduation on the internet, in the print and broadcast media, and by offering you the opportunity to obtain souvenir videos. Visual images of graduates at the ceremonies and/or receptions may be used in future promotional, marketing and information materials.
