Master of Commerce (M.Com.)
About Department:-
Master of Commerce (M.Com.,) is a Post Graduate Programme which provides a platform to students to acquire the requisite knowledge through a strong theoretical background and practical exposure to face the challenges in this competitive world. The main objective of the department is to produce professional accountants, academicians, and entrepreneurs to extend their support in the nation building activity. The Department helps the students to equip with the ability to link the theory into practice. The seminars, presentations on current, economic and business issues are also organised in the department at regular intervals. Thus, the Department fosters the economic growth and opportunity by promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and competitiveness among the students.
Smt. AllumSumangalamma Memorial College for Women, was started in the year 1969, but the Department of Commerce was started a decade after in the year 1979. From few students in 1979, the Commerce stream has grown by leaps and bounds and presently 447 students are pursuing Commerce course in the academic year 2016-17. However, the Department started M.Com., as a post graduate course during the year 2014-15. At present 45 students are pursuing their post-graduation course in Commerce. The Department is well equipped with the ICT classrooms, separate library in the central library building of the College. Dr. GavisiddappaGadag is the Coordinator of the Department and at present there are five guest faculty and two have obtained Ph.D., including the Co-ordinator. The Post-Graduate Department is blessed with the senior, experienced visiting faculty such as Dr.S.Jayanna, Dean, Department of Management Studies, Vijayanagar Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ballari, Dr.K.Tejas Murthy, Retired Principal, Dr.Rajasekharappa, Retired Principal of Law College. The Department has assisted in conduct of workshop on “Entrepreneurship and Industry Policy 2012-17” in association with the District Industries Centre, Ballari for the benefit of upcoming entrepreneurs. The students have also participated in Inter-Collegiate festival and bagged 'Best Finance Award'.

Events conducted by Department:-
Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme
On 8th March, 2016, One Day “Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme and Industrial Policy 2016-17” was organised in association with the District Industries Centre, Ballari. The Joint Director of D.I.C. and Mr. Eligar, Resource Person from CEDOK, Dharwad and successful entrepreneur Mr.JanardhanaReddy.N., were present. The Joint Director, DIC explained in detail the Industrial Policy of the Government of Karnataka towards micro, small and medium industries. The Resource Person from CEDOK provided in depth analysis of entrepreneur, entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship development programmes for the benefit of Women entrepreneurs. Mr.Janardhan Reddy on this occasion interacted with the students and educated all on problems faced by the entrepreneurs in establishing the units and suggested the measures to overcome the same.
"AKANKSHA" - An Inter Collegiate Post Graduation
in Commerce Fest.
On 6th April, 2016, M.Com., - II and IV Semester Students (2015-16 Batch) participated in “Akanksha” an Inter-Collegiate Post Graduation in Commerce Fest. -2016held at ShriGavisiddeshwara Arts, Science & Commerce College, Koppal and successfully participated in all the events and bagged 'Best Finance Award'.
GRADUATION DAY
On 11th May 2016, the Final Semester Students of First Batch (2014-16) students celebrated their “Graduation Day” in a meaningful way. The Principal of the College Dr.M.Pampapathi congratulated all for their successful completion of the course and expressed his wishes for their career in the future. Dr.GavisiddappaGadag, Dr.G.Shashikiran, Dr.Mallareddy.T, Mrs.R.Mala, Ms.Aneesha, Ms.Savita, and Ms.Bhuvaneshwari, the teaching faculty of the P.G.Department were present and wish them all success in their future career.
FRESHER'S DAY
On 22nd August, 2016, Fresher’s Party was organised for the First Semester students. The Principal and Staff of the Department spoke on this occasion and explained the modalities involved in the course. They also asked the students to make the best use of ICT facilities available in the College to acquire knowledge and skills needed for their success in the career.
Presentations in the Classroom
The students in the class are acquainted with the ICT usage in the classroom seminars and presentations. Apart from chalk and talk method, the ICT is being used regularly in the presentations. A glimpse of the same can be had from the following photos:-
Teacher's Day Celebration
On 5thSeptember, 2016 Teacher’s Day was celebrated in a meaningful way by all the students of the P.G Department. In the function, students narrated the "Role of a Teacher in the Life of a Student". Dr.GavisiddappaGadag, Department of P.G. Studies in Commerce, Coordinator, Dr.G.Shashikiran, Dr.Mallareddy T and Ms.Gayatri M.P were present on this occasion.
BUSINESS LAB
The inauguration of the “Business Lab” was carried out on 28th October, 2016 by the Principal Dr.M.Pampapathi. This Lab in turn helps the students in gaining practical knowledge about what they have learnt theoretically. The day-to-day life of the common people is affected by the various transactions relating to banking, industry, trade, marketing and financial institutions. In this regard students have provided the practical approach to the problems faced by the common people.
