User Guide for ITE Remote Access VPN
To install and use ITE remote access VPN, please follow the instructions outlined below:
Step 1. If you are a first time user logging into ITE VPN, please proceed to perform the below step to check the version of your machine. If you are not a first time user, please proceed to step 2.
(i) Check the version of your PC or notebook.
Go to Start à Settings à Control Panel à System. The information is indicated under System details.
If you are using Windows 98 or Windows XP (Service Pack 2), you will need to follow (ii) to download a patch to enable VPN remote access service.
For users who are using Windows 2000, or Windows XP (Service Pack 1), patch is not needed and you may proceed to step 2.
Click ‘OK’ to close the window.
(ii) To download the patch for users of Windows 98 and Windows XP (Service Pack 2),
§ Open an Internet browser window and key in the URL: http://vpn.ite.edu.sg.
§ At the “Remote Access Logon for ITE”, key in your user name (portal login name) and password (portal password in upper case) and click ‘Logon” button to login to ITE remote access network
§ Under the section “Web Applications”, click on the link “For Win 98, XP SP2 users, pls click here to download patches)”.
§ Click on the patch based on the version of your machine.
§ The following pop-up window appears. Click on “Open” to download the patch.
§ Upon successful downloading of the patch, the following pop up window appears. Click “Yes” to install the patch.
§ Click ‘Yes’ to accept the license agreement.
§ Upon successful installation, the following screen appears. For the patch to be taken effect, you will need to restart your PC/Notebook. After machine has re-started, continue with step 2 below.
Step 2. Open an Internet browser window and key in the URL: http://vpn.ite.edu.sg.
Step 3. At the “Remote Access Logon for ITE”, key in your user name (portal login name) and password (portal password in upper case) and click ‘Logon” button to login to ITE remote access network.
Step 4. Accessing ITE remote access VPN service
Under the section “Network Access”, click on the link “ITE LAN (For Win 98, XP SP2 patches are available below)”.
Step 5. If your PC/Notebook is connecting to VPN for the first time, you will get the following message after clicking on “ITE LAN” icon.
Check the box “Always trust content for F5 Networks” and click “Yes”. This will download the VPN driver. The download takes about 1 minute.
Step 6. A small window (F5 Network Access) will pop up and you should see the status changing as follows: loading à connecting à authenticating à logging to network à network access connection established.
Minimise (do not close) this “F5 Network Access” pop-up window, as it is needed to maintain remote access connection.
Step 7. Once you are connected to ITE over the vpn secured tunnel, you are able to use ITE applications securely over the Internet. Now you may launch applications from your PC (i.e. Lotus Notes, Internet Explorer)
To disconnect the vpn secured tunnel, please click on “close” in the small window as shown in step 6 and click on “logout” at the top right-hand corner of the page as shown in step 4.
