BACK ON THE MIC WITH MIC LOWRY AS THE TALENTED QUINTET RETURN WITH NEW EP, MOOD

Talented R&B quintet MiC LOWRY are back and ready to return to music’s frontlines. Giving their fans new music in the form of their second EP, MOOD, it comes off of the back of them supporting Justin Bieber on the European leg of his Purpose tour.

Expanding on their favoured soulful sound with forays into funk, Hip Hop, and even garage, MOOD hears the MOBO Award-winners update the music of their youth. Pairing memorable melodies with explicit lyrics over a bed of experimental backdrops that make for one hell of a tasty musical buffet, this is by far MiC LOWRY’s most exciting offering to date.

“Working with amazing producers pushed us to take risks and try out new sounds,” explains KaineOfoeme. Co-written by the band, MOOD was recorded in Liverpool, London and L.A. with the best of the best as far as A-list producers go. With MNEK (Beyonce, Disclosure), Stereotypes (Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber), Harmony Samuels (Ariana Grande, Chris Brown) and Shift Key (Stormzy, TinieTempah) all behind the boards for MOOD it gave the lads from Liverpool the confidence to be themselves and offer their fans a little bit more than they had previously.

“It’s the first time we’ve all been so heavily involved in the songwriting process,” says Akia Jones. “It meant more to us because it was personal. Our personalities and the different sides of us are in these songs.”

Led by sultry new single “Don’t Tempt Me”, which captures the stripped down acoustic sound and hypnotic harmonies of MiC LOWRY’s live shows, it was written by Justin Gray (Amy Winehouse, Mariah Carey, James Bay) after the band met him in L.A. one day and just recorded it off the cuff. Hearing the band channel what can best be described as a Shawn Mendes and Boyz II Men hybrid laced with a charming British vitality, it’s definitely going to be a fan favourite.

Made up of six tracks, plus interlude “2U”, MOOD explores a variety of sounds, tempos and, as the title suggests, moods. Whether it’s the slinky, bass-heavy “Boomerang” – a song with an intro that fans of Jagged Edge might recognise – the skittery, Timbaland-inspired “Know What You Like”, the frisky. dancefloor-friendly “No Problem” or “Frustration” with its disco-funk feel, there’s literally something for everyone. And if you’re a fan of soul bearing R&B then “Can’t Lie” is the song that’s going to trigger every emotion in your body thanks to its soaring vocals and new wave finish.

“On every song on this EP we’ve tried our best to be real,” says Ben Sharples. “MOOD is us as we are now, a bunch of Liverpool lads trying to work out where we fit into the world and having as much fun as we can while we’re at it. The fact we’ve got this far is amazing. Where we go from here we can’t wait to find out.”
