Course Description:
HEALTH
Semester Credit 1/2 Grade 9-12
Health is a required course that presents the subject of health in relation to the needs of adolescents. The course approaches the subject from a position which realizes that the student can begin to assume responsibility for his or her own health and safety, and is designed with a positive approach to healthful living.
Textbooks, Readings and Materials:
· Textbook: Health & Wellness (covered) (5 points by next day of class)
· Notebook (will be graded each week)
· Pocket folder
· Blue or black pen
Grading:
1.) This course uses a point system. Each quarter averages 200 – 300 points, depending on the particular units of study.
2.) Categories for grading include:
· Tests
· Projects
· Homework
· In-class Assignments
· Journals
· Participation (being prepared, behavior)
· Extra Credit
3.) A reasonable amount of time will be given for make-up work, provided it is an excused absence.
4.) Work will be accepted one day late for ½ credit.
5.) Occasional opportunities for extra credit are available at the teacher’s discretion. Students can expect an average of 10 -20 points of extra credit opportunity per quarter.
Class Expectations:
1.) Be on time and in your seat when the bell rings, otherwise you are considered tardy. (3 times tardy = 1 demerit)
2.) Irresponsible and inappropriate behavior, e.g. disrupting class, derogatory comments, and any lack of materials will be noted and one demerit will be issued per any three infractions.
3.) Raise your hand and wait to be called on before speaking.
4.) APA format is to be used on all written assignments. (Consult your writer’s Inc.)
5.) Absolutely no food or drink in the classroom.
6.) All handbook policies regarding cheating and plagiarism will be enforced.

1.) Keep an organized notebook
2.) Be prompt concerning missed work
3.) ASK QUESTIONS
4.) Pay attention to current events that concern Health topics.
5.) Have a sense of humor!
