· Share with a partner. Exchange papers. Using a blue/red pen underline “buzz” words (25 cent word) (higher level vocabulary) Underline word that made you say, “wow” I get it. Also underline words or phrases that need revisions. Example, if the said a resume was to show good things about a person. Underline good things and suggest a higher level descriptive word to replace it with. Return to partner. Read suggestions and underlined words. Make any changes or edit based on comments
· Share with the class. Teacher will listen to statements and write on the word key content vocabulary, “buzz words or higher level descriptive words. Discuss why these words describe the purpose of a resume. Explain to the students that a resume is like an advertisement. It should NOT be an autobiography and must emphasize the best qualities of the candidate in a very sync manner.
· The purpose of a resume is to provide a summary of your skills, abilities and accomplishments. It is a quick advertisement of who you are. It is a "snapshot" of you with the intent of capturing and emphasizing interests and secure you an interview. It is not an autobiography. Since your resume is a primary tool in your job search, it needs to be carefully written and critiqued.
