Expressions of interest are invited from suitably qualified candidates forfull time, fixed term research positions at both postdoctoral research and research fellow levels. The research program is focused on Next Generation Imaging Technologies for Smartphones and is funded by Science Foundation Ireland and FotoNation Ltd. through an Industry/University Partnership between the National University of Ireland, Galway and FotoNation.
These positions are available immediately on an initial24-month renewable contract basis. Candidates with experience working with or in industry are particularly welcome.
The successful candidateswill be based in Galway, Ireland and work with researchers from both University and the Industry partner to design and implement experimental systems, algorithms and prototype hardware (electronics & optics) for evaluation of a range of novel digital imaging techniques and technologies to be incorporated in next generation smartphone devices. We are seeking one appointment in topics (i) and/or (ii) below, and one in topics (iii), (iv) and/or (v) although other relevant expertise may be of interest.
The main duties of the post areto carry out novel research and to contribute to management of a team of 6+ PhD students working in tandem with engineers from the industry partner. In particular the successful candidates will be responsible for organizing and managing project research activities to yield high quality research publications and invention disclosures.A strong publication record is essential for these positions and experience in working with industry is an advantage for the senior appointment.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have a track record in a research and development environment. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics or equivalent Computer Science background. A proven publication record is also a requirement. Candidates should have a strong background in imaging, and expertise in at least one of (i) computational imaging, (ii) optical design, (iii) advanced coding of embedded systems, (iv) biometric analysis or (v) electronic hardware design. Specialized experience in face modelling & analysis, eye tracking, miniature optical systems or super-resolution techniques would be a plus.
Candidates should have excellent communication and organizational skills; be highly motivated and passionate about developing new products & technologies; and have strong writing, oral and interpersonal skills. A strong publication record in relevant research journals is required for the Research Fellow position.
Salary:
€37,750 - €42,394per annum (for early stage postdoctoral researchers)
€51,716per annum (for experienced researchers/research fellows)
