Call for Submission of Abstracts
Authors are requested to conform to the following guidelines for submission of abstract as stated below. Those not conforming to the guidelines may not be referring for review. Please refer to the sample abstract below for reference.
· The content of abstract should be based on research work conducted during the calendar year of 2016, by members or in collaboration with members of the Department of Medicine.
· The abstract must be in English, legible, singled line spaced, and fit within the frame allotted (17cm W x 12cm H). Do not use a font size smaller than 10. Please avoid exotic or unusual fonts and choose one that is easy to read.
· Abbreviations may be used, but they must be placed in parentheses after the first usage. DO NOT use symbols or special characters such as b (beta), a (alpha), m (micro) etc, please spell them out in full. As they can not be guaranteed to be reproduced as submitted.
· Please use generic name of drugs and avoid any other trade marked references.
· Authors: Please place authors in separate lines BEFORE the title. Initials should precede the surname; omit degrees and titles. Indicate the institutions and countries where the work was done. Please underline the name of the presenting author only.
· Title: This should be succinct and clearly state the nature of the investigation. Abbreviations should be avoided in the title but may be used in the text as they will be defined on first usage. Type the title in bold, but DO NOT capitalize nor underline it.
· The content of the abstract should start without any indentations and should include:
(i) Introduction / Objective – e.g. state specific objective and background of the study
(ii) Method – e.g. state method used, study design, patient sample etc, if pertinent
(iii) Results – e.g. summarise results obtained
(iv) Conclusion – e.g. state conclusions reached. Statements such as “results will be discussed” or “data will be presented” will not be accepted.
(v) Acknowledgment – credit source(s) of funding for research project, if any
· Do not include graphs, diagrams nor photographs in your abstract, as they can not be guaranteed to be reproduced as submitted.
· Please ensure that your abstract do not contain any spelling, grammar or scientific errors as it will be reproduced exactly as submitted. Any new or amended versions can not be guaranteed to be printed nor reviewed.
· If you are submitting more than one abstract, one abstract per file. Additional forms may be downloaded in Word (doc) or Rich Text (rtf) format from http://www.medic.hku.hk/mrc.php
· Please submit soft copy of completed abstract form to Conference Secretariat via email [. Fax and hard copy abstract will not be accepted.
Additional guidelines:-
· All members of the Department of Medicine are invited to submit abstracts. Abstracts from members of other departments or institutions will be considered if the research was done in collaboration with members of the Department of Medicine.
· The abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee, which will make decisions with regards to the acceptance for oral or poster presentations, publication only or not accepted. The preferred presentation type is for indication only, and is subject to the final decision of the Committee.
· All accepted abstracts will be published in Hong Kong Medical Journal (HKMJ) and will be distributed to participants of the conference as well as registered practitioners in Hong Kong.
· All presentations including oral, PowerPoint slides and posters are to be in English.
· All correspondence and information regarding notification of acceptance for presentation, publication or rejection, guidelines and schedule of presentation etc will be emailed to the presenting author at the email address given on page 3 of the Abstract Form.
The final extended deadline for submitting abstracts is 15 November 2016 (Tuesday).
