Inserting Footnotes in the WHW WIKI

Step 1: Enter your information in the “Editing” Window of the Wiki.

Step 2: When you are finished with the sentence that you want to add a footnote (citation) to, click on the “Widgets” button at the top of the edit window.

Step 3: In the “Widgets” window that opens, you will see a link titled “Reference.” Click on it. NOTE: Sometimes there is a glitch in the web page and it does not appear. Close the “Widget” window and re-open it to reset the connection. The “Reference” link will appear.

Step 4: When you click on the “Reference” link, it will prompt you to “Embed a Reference Marker.” Click on this.

Step 5: The screen will move to the bottom of the Nation Building Page and a box will appear that says “Type the content of your reference here.” Enter your citation in proper format. When done, scroll back up to your article and continue writing/editing as needed.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  1. Since we are all editing the same page, your citations will sometimes appear in between other citations from other groups. This is OK. The Wiki automatically numbers all citations for you. All you have to do is insert them.
  2. You only need to put the full citation the first time you use a source. There is an abbreviated version for all subsequent times. See back page for reference.
