Job Description

Hours: P/T 21 hours per week. Some evening and weekend work may be required

Salary: £14,212 – £14,683 per annum (£23,688 - £24,472 FTE dependant on experience). Urban Roots provides a 5% company pension scheme
Contract: Fixed term until 31st March 2019

Reporting to: Project Manager

Urban Roots is a thriving environmental and health improvement organisation working across the Southside of Glasgow. This post is funded by the Scottish Government Aspiring Communities Fund and is part of a wider Foodbank Support Project, working with Glasgow SE Foodbank and Castlemilk Law and Money Advice Centre. The aim of the project is to identify social and financial needs amongst foodbank users and provide targeted support to address these issues, with the objective of significantly reducing foodbank use. Your role will initially be to research current community food provision across the SE, including community meals, cookery courses, lunch clubs and community food growing projects. You will work closely with the advisers and support workers employed on the project to support foodbank users to become involved with appropriate community food activities.

You will be based in the Urban Roots office in Toryglen, but the role will involve significant travel to both Castlemilk and Govanhill.

Main Responsibilities

1.  Research current community food provision in Glasgow SE

2.  Produce and disseminate information about community food project activities in Glasgow SE, including referral processes where relevant

3.  Working closely with other project staff, identify suitable opportunities for foodbank users to access community food activities

4.  Support foodbank users to access community food project activities

5.  Design systems to record referrals and track ongoing involvement with community food projects

6.  Promote the project’s profile and achievement within the local area so as to raise public awareness of the project’s programmes and activities and attend relevant forums

7.  Work closely and in partnership with agencies including Glasgow City Council, NHS, local housing associations and others as appropriate.

8.  Ensure that all activities adhere to Urban Roots’ policies and procedures

9.  Offer localised, ‘hands on’ and day to day input into delivery as necessary

10.  To check and maintain any resources as allocated

11.  Any other reasonable duties to perform the job role


Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Education and Training
·  Good general education (Advanced Highers/A-Level equivalent) and/or 2 year’s minimum relevant work experience relating to the role
·  Food policy, public health, nutrition or community development qualification / ü / ü
Experience
·  Experience of working or volunteering within a community food or gardening project
·  Experience of working with people facing challenging circumstances
·  Experience of delivering projects in partnership with external organisations
·  Experience of implementing monitoring and evaluation systems
·  Experience of producing leaflets and flyers
·  Experience of writing reports to funders and other audiences / ü
