English I Course Description:
This course will focus on fundamental language, reading, and writing skills. The program will emphasize vocabulary, composition skills, research skills, and provide students with a variety of writing strategies. The course will include studies of short stories, poetry, the novel, drama, non-fiction, and myths.

Class Rules/Expectations:
- Be on time to class.
- Leave all food, candy, gum, and drinks (other than bottled water) outside the classroom.
- Demonstrate respect for others at all times.
- Be prepared for class.
- Participate in class activities.
Late Work Policy:
You will be given one opportunity to submit late work not related to an absence for a maximum grade of 75. This applies to major and minor grades only.
Make-Up Work Policy:
Students shall be permitted to make up assignments and tests without grade penalty after an absence. Students will make up the work within a reasonable time period as determined by the student and the teacher. Three school days is generally considered a reasonable time period. It is the student’s responsibility to check for work missed due to an absence.
Grading Policy:
Minor Grades (quizzes, class work, etc.) ………………….…………………….…...…..50%

Grades will be posted on the bulletin board by student I.D. on a weekly basis. Students will be given the opportunity to redo/retake any major grade that she or he has failed if the student has attended at least one (1) re-teach tutorial. The two grades (original test and retest) will be averaged and a maximum grade of 70 will be recorded in the grade book.
