“On the international front, similar RE parks had been developed on landfills. Countries such as Germany, the United States of America and Korea have already been putting this in place for more than 15 years. Now, Cypark is excited to be playing a key role of bringing this proven technology as well as investment to Malaysia, to realise the Government’s RE push. Cypark is in the unique position to bring forth a successful economic transformation to these remediated landfill areas, by creating RE parks. The people of Malaysia stand to benefit most from the setting up of the RE Park. With the implementation and launch of this park, a much cleaner and healthier environment is created for the general public apart from generating employment opportunities”, Tan Sri Razali added.

Also present at the launch was Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak; Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hasan;; Minister of Energy,Water and Communications Technology Malaysia(KeTTHA), Datuk Sri Peter Chin Kah Fui; Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government, Y.B. In his speech, YAB Datuk Seri Najib said, “Cypark’s innovation in developing the Integrated Renewable Energy Park will open up green technology job opportunities, many of which will be in the high income and middle income bracket. We estimate that this Pajam initiative alone will create more than 100 jobs during its development phase, and another 20+ jobs during the operational stage. Beyond such direct job creation, this initiative will further intensify Research and Development in the green technology space, and consequently create knowledge workers and technologists.”

He further added, “As one of the Entry Point Projects under the ETP, this Project will achieve green energy generation from landfill sources, and feed into the National Grid via energy sale to Tenaga Nasional Berhad. The generation of energy from solar and biogas from a landfill site as demonstrated by this project today will enhance our country’s goal toward energy independence and energy security.”

Cypark plans to invest RM94.29 million to build a 10Mw(Megawatt) renewable energy plant with grid connection, at the RE Park in Pajam. The project is expected to generate Gross National Income (“GNI”) of RM12.16 million each year for the next 21 years, with the sum total amounting to RM255.36 million.

The RE Park involves the integration of three potential resources available at the landfills i.e. Solar, Landfill gas (Biogas), and Waste (Biocell) into a large scale renewable energy project. The RE Park will unlock the economic potential of landfill sites. Through a sustainable program outlined by Cypark, the economic opportunities of unsanitary landfills, otherwise locked and lost for at least 15-20 years, will be realised in the near future.

Cypark plans to replicatethe Pajam RE Park initiative in16 other landfills that Cypark is currently closing all over the Country, of which 4 are in Negeri Sembilan. The Company is also in talks with the Government to further expand this initiative to upgrade, close and convert into RE Parks 32 additional non sanitary landfills across the country, and in the processbring investment of around RM1Billion of Private Investments into this initiative, capable of producing more than 100Mw of clean energy.

Once the Pajam RE Park is fully operational with 10 Mw clean power connected to TNB grid based on the new Feed-In-Tariff which is expected to be approved by the government soon, Cypark anticipates its revenue and profit to grow significantly from its new renewable energy business. With proposal to replicate the RE Park over to other 48 landfills across the country and generate 100Mw, Cypark foresees major growth in its revenue and profit in years to come.
