CONDITIONS OF SERVICE – TEMPLATE

ALL APPOINTMENTS ARE SUBJECT TO:

- A Satisfactory medical assessment and references being received.

- Providing evidence of academic / professional qualifications as stated in the criteria.

CONDITIONS

1.  Wages / ·  Scale:
·  SCP:
·  (if applicable) per hour
·  Paid weekly on a Friday into a Bank or Building Society Account. Wages are paid once weeks in arrears.
·  Increments are paid annually subject to satisfactory service; on 1st April (unless the start date is between 1st October and 31st March in which case they will be paid after 6 months satisfactory service).
2.  Hours / ·  37 Hours per week.
·  Shift pattern in operation.
·  Some evening and weekends may be required.
3.  Annual Leave / ·  21 days during first 5 years of service.
·  25 days for over 5 years continuous local government service from 1st April after the start date.
·  28 days for over 10 years continuous local government service from 1st April after the start date.
·  In addition Bank Holidays and statutory days will be given
4.  Pension / ·  You will automatically become a member to the Northern Ireland Local Government Officers' Pension Scheme unless you indicate in writing that you wish to elect not to do so. Your contribution to the Pension Scheme will be between 5.5% and 7.5% of your pensionable pay, depending on which pay band your salary is within.
5.  Probationary Period / ·  If you do not have previous unbroken Local Authority Service you will be subject to a probationary period of 26 weeks.
·  Three reports are completed by your Manager after 8, 18 and 26 weeks service.
6.  Service / ·  This is a permanent full time appointment.
·  If you already have an additional job and are intending to retain this please check with the Director of Corporate Services to see if the Council's consent is necessary. To take additional employment without consent would be contrary to the National Conditions of Service and the Council's Disciplinary Procedure.
7.  Termination of Service / ·  One week’s notice in writing regardless of length of service.
·  The Council will give the statutory minimum period of notice required under the Contract of Employment and Redundancy Payments Act (Northern Ireland) 1965.
8.  Sickness Leave / ·  Sickness pay will be paid in accordance with the Scheme adopted by the National Joint Council (NJC) for Local Government Services. Entitlement depends on length of service.
9.  Maternity/
Adoption Leave / ·  All pregnant women regardless of the number of hours worked, or their length of service, are entitled to time off work with pay to attend antenatal appointments, and the right to return to work when their baby is born. Entitlements are in accordance with statutory requirements
10.  Paternity Leave / ·  Father’ will receive two weeks’ paid paternity leave in accordance with the Council’s paternity policy.
11.  Smoking Policy / ·  The Council operates a Smoking Policy which prevents smoking in any building owned or controlled by Council. The Policy also covers smoking in vehicles, including private cars used for business.

13.  Retirement / ·  Coleraine Borough Council has a normal retirement age of 65, however all staff may request to remain at work beyond this age
14.  Canvassing / ·  Canvassing in any form, oral or written, direct or indirect, will if proven to the satisfaction of the Council, disqualify a candidate for appointment.
