Study Suggestions
1. Spend time reviewing the reading strategy definitions that you have in the Skills section of your
binder. Read non-fiction material (newspaper articles, magazine articles, etc.) and apply the
reading strategies that we discussed.
2.
A. Study the Important ELA Term List that you have in the Spelling/Vocabulary Section of
your binder. Study the Important ELA Terms sentence examples that you have in the
Spelling/Vocabulary Section of your binder. Spend extra time reviewing the twenty terms
that you wrote sentence examples for this year in ELA.
B. You should also go to http://dictionary.reference.com/ to use a group of Important ELA
Terms review activities that Mr. Horton posted on this website. Click on the Word Dynamo
portion of the main page. In the search library spot, type in Mr. Horton’s Important ELA
Terms (be sure all characters are correct or the file will not appear) and click the magnifying
glass. Here you can choose the Matching or Flashcards activity.
C. You can also download the Dictionary.com Flashcards app if you have access to a device
(iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, etc.). Again, be sure to specifically search for Mr. Horton’s
Important ELA Terms (be sure all characters are correct or the file will not appear).
3. Think about and apply the strategies that we discussed in class during the STARS and CARS
workbook experiences.
4. Review the 6+1 Writing Traits that are in the Writing section of your binder. Apply these
strategies to your writing on the exam.
