Brief description:

During the last years, food consumption has acquired great importance in Piedmontese economy, as proven by the increasing attention of consumers towards local and organic food and the spread of farmers’ markets, ethical purchasing groups, etcetera.

In order to diffuse among young consumers a critical approach towards the quality of food consumption, the Division of Consumer Affairs of Regione Piemonte has promoted the project “In our dish”.

The project, which is realized by the Division of Consumer Affairs of Regione Piemonte together with the Faculty of Economics of the University of Turin, the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo, and the “A come Ambiente” museum, includes several educational paths aimed at promoting among youth the consumption of “good, clean and fair food”: good because of its delicious taste, clean, for both the planet and our bodies, because it is grown and harvested with methods that have a positive impact on our local ecosystems, and fair because it is produced by people who are treated with dignity and justly compensated for their labor.

The project, foresees different phases.

First of all the students of six Piedmontese secondary schools will be involved in focus groups and in group interviews regarding the quality of the food consumed by youth. The results of these interviews will be used to elaborate three different questionnaires (according to different age groups) that students will be asked to fill in.

On the basis of the results of this survey, the Faculty of Economics of the University of Turin and the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo will define the contents of the educational paths on food quality and taste education.

The second phase foresees the realization, by the “A come Ambiente” museum, of a multimedia-touring exhibition on food, that will also travel in the schools participating in the project on the occasion of the meetings that will be held in the institutes.

In the third phase the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo will involve students in various educational activities on taste education in order to help them to make daily choices about food with awareness and responsibility.
