DEMONS DEN (for 06.06.09)
Not too often of late have Wycheproof Narraport Seniors and Reserves and the Richmond Tigers won on the same weekend so last Saturday wasindeed goodcause for celebration. Great win last night by the Tiges too…..Woof Woof Grunta!!!
The day at Wyche started off with two great games of Junior footy made possible with the excellent cooperation of the Saints Junior officials and of course their 16 players who helped us out on the field. The Under 13’s went down by a goal under their ‘stand – in’ Coach Mr Duffy and although beaten they enjoyed a really competitive and entertaining game. Awards went to Simon Elliott, Robert Fawcett, Danny Harrison, Morgan Fawcett, & Jed Bish.
With 27 Saints and 9 Demonsavailable, our U/16 boy’s odds were greater than were David’s as he went into battle against Goliath. Wise heads prevailed however and an 18 per side match was arranged between two very even teams. This was an enthralling battle through to the end and one from which all 36 players would have gained immense benefit.Awards went to Liam Andison, Spencer Allan, Joe Durie, Jacob Tillig, & Dane McLennan in a game of what Junior footy should be all about….clean, fair, competitive, and fun. Well done to all 36 of you and your Coaches.
Our Reseves started well, had a lapse for a couple of quarters, and then came home with a wet sail in the last to clinch their first win for the year. A big pack mark in the goalsquare from Clint (Leo Barry) Riley in the dying seconds followed by his goal was enough to have the bar sales in the Green Mill ticking over at a record pace. Lets get behind Hawk and Rory and see if we can make it two in a row against the Magpies today. Best players were Rory White, Tom Keane, James Allan, Matt Nicholls, Simon Harrison, and Ashley Durie.
The Seniors responded to a ‘bake’ from Marty at halftime to kick 16 goals to 6 from then on as they too saluted for the first time in season 2009. The new boys are starting to find their feet and with a bit of depth in the club players are on notice that they must perform to hold their place in the team. However, ‘one swallow a Summer does not make”, and it will take a 100% effort for 4 quarters to topple last year’s Premiers today. No reason at all why you can’t boys so shoulders to the wheel and lets get some real momentum going and show our supporters that the Demons are far from a spent force. Awards last week went to Joe Coatsworth, Ben Brennan, Chris Duffy, George Allan, David Farley, & James Bismire.
No results from the hockey have been provided but I do know that the Men’s team went down 4-0. Harry assures me though that the score was not a true reflection of the closeness of the contest (it should have been 10-0)!!!!!
The netballers had a couple of really close tussles with the Saints but unfortunately finished on the debit side of the ledger despite those efforts. Today could be your day girls so good luck against the Maggies in their own nest and lets tip them out of it and pinch their eggs
Awards last week:

C GradeKristy Fawcett & Rosie King
Junior AAnna Brennan & Maddie Durie
Junior BMaddie Durie, Nicky Elder, & Emily Anderson
Under 13AAlexandra Gretgrix, Suzannah Fawcett, & Emma Gretgrix
A big crowd was present on Saturday night to raise funds for the Junior’s excursion to the MCG and what a fantastic night it was. Congratulations to the organizers of what was a fun family night with plenty of fun & laughs. Rory, Rumby, Jacko, & Moose all came through our Junior club and know how much the kids look forward to their trip and we thank them for putting a lot of work into ensuring that the night was a great success.Particular thanks also to the Juniors’ Mums for the magnificent meal provided and also to the many donors of prizes for the spinning wheel.
Tickets are now available for the Back to Front draw to be held on 11 July so please buy your tickets early as this night always sells out fast.
Moose’s Interesting Fact:We are all winners ‘cos we all got to the egg first!
Quote of the Day:Most football games are lost, not won!
