Quick and effective ways to create a problem solving culture to engage your students in the classroom. Rob uses action based research on the latest ways to integrate Singapore problem solving methods and link it to the Australian curriculum.
Reading is thinking: the explicit teaching of comprehension matters (P-3) – Amanda Wicks
Explore a range of targeted strategies to develop students reading and comprehension skills. Participants will explore QAR and practical strategies to improve students’ reading success. This session targets students in P-3.

How to give effective feedback on drafts (4-12) – Sean Loriaux

Practical strategies to encourage higher-order thinking through the drafting process in all subject areas in Primary and Secondary.

This session, delivered by a voice specialist, is designed to arm teachers with both proactive and reactive tips to improve vocal health problems specific to teaching.

Setting Up Primary School Workspace (P-7) – Leona Hedges & Linda Switzer

Does your workspace resemble a sea of resources, marking folders, notes and planning tools? Have you spent precious time looking for that lost game that fits perfectly with the lesson you planned? Or are you running out of room to store your resources? We can offer you some hands on tips and trick to help you take control of your space.

Session 4 - Workshop Outlines

Building number and place value fluency through games (P-7) Peter Carmichael and Jenny Carmichael
Play, evaluate and modify fun card games and dice activities that help develop number concepts in the primary school. What links can be made to the Australian Curriculum? This workshop is a balance of theory and practice. Explore what numeracy is, make links with current practice and then have fun with simple games and activities that engage learners from years 3-7 to develop their confidence using and discussing mathematics.

Positive Behaviour Support in Primary Classrooms (P-7) Michelle Cubis

This session will look at a range of practical supports and strategies to assist with managing student behaviour. The session will also explore classroom management plans, focusing on acknowledgment and correction plans to improve student behaviour. Participants can bring a USB to the session to receive a number of visual support templates for immediate use in the classroom.
Visible Learning – Using Bloom’s Taxonomy in Lesson Planning (5-12) – Nikki Tattam
This session will help teachers develop their use of Bloom’s Taxonomy in lesson planning to help differentiate in lessons, and explore different ways of helping students engage with the lesson’s focus.
Getting Started with Differentiation: Think Big, Start Small
Successful differentiation is about knowing your students and knowing the curriculum, but how do we manage that in the classroom? This workshop will provide participants with some practical take home strategies to use in managing a differentiated classroom.
