Aboriginal Education ExcellenceAwards

The 2016 Inspire Succeed Excel Aboriginal Education Excellence Awards will be held on Monday5thDecember, 2016 at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club.

These awards acknowledge outstanding excellence of Aboriginal students, contributionsby Aboriginal community members and contributionsby Department of Education Aboriginal Employeesto Aboriginal Education in schoolsacross the Illawarra South East.

These awards are open to students, staff and community of the Upper South Coast and Far South Coast Regional AECGs and/or Wollongong North, Wollongong, South Coast, Far South Coast, Queanbeyan and Southern Tablelands Principal Networks.

2016 award categories are:

  • Culture, Courage and Commitment
  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Creative and Performing Arts
  • Sporting Excellence
  • Attendance
  • Leadership, Citizenship and Community Service
  • Special Education
  • Community Acknowledgement Awards for Aboriginal Education
  • Aboriginal Education Employee Excellence Award

Nominations to be mailed to Jenni Wenzel,Department of Education, P.O. Box 118,Warilla, NSW, 2528no later than 4.00pm on Tuesday18thOctober, 2016. Please be aware that late nominations will not be accepted and the envelope should be post marked no later than 18th October, 2016.

Schools are strongly encouraged to nominate Aboriginal students,Aboriginal community members and Aboriginal Department of Education Employees for the 2016Inspire Succeed Excel Aboriginal Education Excellence Awards in order to recognise excellence in Aboriginal Education in schools.

Students and community members who are successful in their nomination will be invited to receive their award at the 2016 Inspire Succeed Excel Aboriginal Education Excellence Awardsto be held on Monday, 5thDecember, 2016 at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club.

Please note:

  • Submissions must address the selection criteria or will be excluded from the final selection.
  • The committee reserves the right not to present awards in a category if the nominations received are deemed not to fulfill the selection criteria.
  • Both community and schools are eligible to nominate students.
  • Principals may be asked by community members to sign community nominations.
  • Schools should ensure that successful students attend the awards dressed in full school uniform.

Categories and Criteria

Following are the categories and criteria to be used when completing Nomination Forms.

CATEGORIES AND CRITERIA

The committee recognises that Aboriginal students may be eligible for more than one category nomination. When completing the nomination form please provide detailed information about the student’s participation and excellence. This information is essential to the success of the student’s application.

Categories 1-7 are for Aboriginal students.

  1. Culture, Courage and Commitment
    Category 1 ‘Culture, Courage and Commitment’ recognises student excellence beyond those demonstrated in categories 2-7.
  2. courage, focus and commitment in the face of challenge
  3. personal strength to overcome adversity
  4. pride in their identity, and sharing Aboriginal culture with others
  5. commitment to achieving to their academic potential
  1. Literacy
  2. demonstrated talent in one or more areas in literacy
  3. outstanding commitment and progress in literacy
  4. recognition for outstandingliteracy excellencefrom school/community
  5. recognition for outstanding excellencevia local, regional or state awards/competitions
  1. Numeracy
  2. demonstrated talent in one or more areas innumeracy

  4. excellence within chosen area at, not only a school or regional,but outside school activities (ie Eisteddfods etc)

  1. Aboriginal Education Employee Excellence Award

This category is for Aboriginal Department of Education Employees who have displayed an outstanding contribution to Aboriginal Education.

  • making asignificant contribution to Aboriginal Education
  • having significantinput into school/regional initiatives
  • workingsuccessfully in partnership with the AECG, community and students
