GRADE 11 TRAVEL AND TOURISM SUMMATIVE
THE AMAZING RACE
Task
You will use the popular television show as a guide to plan your own Amazing Race. You are to plan a series of activities that reflect both the culture and environment of each destination. In addition you will provide necessary travel tips for the general public who wish to visit the countries in your race.
Steps to Success
1)Look back at all the different destinations covered this year in travel and tourism. Use the experiences you saw online, from television and in class to choose unique and interesting filming locations for the next Amazing Race.
2)Use the race summary sheet that outlines the main locations and activities for each stage of your race. All racers start from PearsonInternationalAirport in Toronto, Canada.
3)For each leg of the race you must complete an explanation for your choices. Your race will be 6 legs. You will need to explain why the roadblocks and detours you choose are unique to each destination. You should have a culture and environment based activity for each leg of the race.
ROADBLOCK: A task in which only one member of the two person team may participate. In most cases the non-participant must wait for the participant to accomplish the goal.
DETOUR: A choice between two different ways to accomplish a goal or reach a destination. On the surface one may seem easy but involves some sort of twist. The other way may seem difficult but it the end it may be a quicker route.
PIT STOP: The final destination for each leg of the race, at which point a team must “clock in”. The last team to arrive at the pit stop is eliminated from the race.
4)Aside from the race outline, information must be given to the general public who may wish to travel in the racers footsteps. The following information must be given:
- Show your race on a world map. Label major countries visited as well as the main city which was focused on. Do not forget a title (My Most Amazing Race) legend, north arrow, scale.
- Provide an accommodation and a restaurant within the major city. Make sure to include the prices of the accommodation and a dinner for 2.
Bonus: 10 marks
PowerPoint/Notebook presentation of your Amazing Race. The presentation should highlight your destinations, your detours and roadblocks and the main attractions to your locations. Also include reasons why you picked your destination. (5-10 mins on an assigned day)
5)Include a properly constructed work cited page. See the Preston High School APA formatting sheet for proper citing format. Make sure all entries are listed in alphabetical order by the AUTHOR’S LAST NAME.
