Varsity Boys Basketball

Tryout Information 2013-2014

Varsity Boys Basketball Tryouts will be 3-6pm from Monday, November 11th through Wednesday, November 13th. There will be team meetings from 2:30-3:30pm in one of the available health rooms followed by practice from 3:45-6pm.

All players planning on trying out must have a completed VHSL physical on file with Meredith Sheeron in the Athletic Training office as well as a completed Emergency Care Card prior to Monday, November 11th. Any prospective candidate who does not have their completed forms by the beginning of the team meeting at 2:30 will not be able to attend Monday’s meeting and subsequent practice.

After the initial tryout period, the normal Varsity Boys Basketball practice time for weekdays will be from 3-5pm and 11-1pm for Saturdays and Holidays. Since Varsity Basketball is a sport played over two holiday seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas, any potential candidate for Varsity basketball must assume that we will practice or play games on all days but Sundays, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. This season’s schedule has practices/scrimmages at Thanksgiving Break and games slated for Dec 26th through Dec. 28th in the Glory Days Holiday Tournament.

Because of the lengthened HS Football Season and the understanding that there are returning Varsity Basketball players from last year’s team currently on our football team, the eligible candidates for selection to this year’s team might be projected forward through the 3 day tryout period. For this reason, the number of players selected after the initial 3 day tryout might be significantly lower than a standard number of a 12 player roster.

A reminder that because of extended fall seasons affecting winter schedules, all practices/scrimmages and games are TBA are subject to being changed to accommodate gym space, game usage, fall tournament games/activities. Please plan accordingly. Current schedules for practice times have us at 3-5 weekdays, 11-1 Saturdays and Holidays, Nov 21 and Nov 26for scrimmages and Dec 3 being the start of the season. Assume that most of these times and dates are in flux and the coaching staff will attempt to make sure all parents and players are kept in the loop.
