Navy Diver Second Class Jordan Green

“It’s not the circumstances that determine who you’re going to be but how you deal with these problems and pains that come your way” - Mat Kearney, “Girl America”

Navy Diver Petty Officer Second Class (ND2) Jordan Green joined the Navy in February 2006. His first duty station was aboard the USS Rushmore (LSD-47),San Diego, Calif. After completing one Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) deployment he was hand selected to attend Navy Search and RescueSwimmerSchool, San Diego, Calif. He not only completed the school number one in his class but was awarded Honor Man of his class.

In 2008, during normal operations off the coast of San Diego a civilian was spotted drifting on a boogie board and near death. The man overboard call was given and ND2 Green was able to battle rough seas to save the man’s life. Later that same year Green was selected for the U.S. Navy Dive Program out of a competitive field of applicants. He attended the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center, Panama City, Fla. Upon graduating second overall in his class he received orders to Seal Delivery Vehicle Team One (SDVT1), Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

While on a training operation in 2009 ND2 Green was injured after he provided aid to a downed Navy SEAL following a parachuting exercise. As he was boarding the rescue boat it became caught in the surf zone. A large wave broke over the bow, ripping him from the side of the boat and his right leg collided with the propeller.

After 13 surgeries and a year of physical therapy, on Feb. 5, 2010, Green passed a physical screening test to return to Full Diving Duty. He is currently still at SDVT-1 and plans on joining a SEAL platoon in the near future. He is also pursuing a bachelor’s degree and a civilian dive certification to become a scuba instructor.
