Overview of French IB

Bonjour!Bienvenue à la classe de français! Summer may be over, but don’t worry, we have many adventures to encounter. This year we will be studying French language and culture, as well as francophone cultures. Be prepared to embark upon many new, different and exciting experiences in French class.

  • *All students must complete and pass the Checkpoint A Proficiency Exam to earn French I credit. A passing grade must be earned for both the Exam and the Cumulative Final Average.There will not be a make-up date for the proficiency exam. Any student who is absent will have to wait until June 2019 for the next exam.

Classroom Expectations

We have expectations in order to allow each student the opportunity to learn and to create a safe place to learn. All students must follow these four expectations:

Student Expectations

1) Make every effort to be successful and speak all in French! Have fun!Read & review your Great French Student Rubric which charts your participation progress. Please keep your Unit Rubric out to use as a reference and self-assessment.

2) At the beginning of class, find your French communication/journal folder and check the Resource Center for any updated hand-outs. Check the Homework Board for any updated assignments. Write your assignments into your agenda book. YOU are responsible for maintaining an organized agenda and binder.

3) Once seated, organize your work space. Take out your daily schedule/activity list. Preview the day’s activities. Check for any notes from Madame. Place any corrected assignments into your French binder. Start your Do Now assignment(s).

4) Be ready for the benchmark/whole class lesson at the designated time(s). Stop and place all materials to the side. Open your class notes and face the front Epson board.

5) Complete all required assignments and tests in a timely manner.Bring the appropriate materials to class every day.Do not eat, drink, or chew gum (unless otherwise directed.)

Homework

Homework is an important reinforcement tool and will be given regularly. Most homework assignments will be checked in class for credit completion, while others will be graded at the teacher’s discretion.

Homework is due at the beginning of each class. In line with the team’s grading policy, if homework is late, it will be given half creditthe following day. Afterwards, the student will receive a zero for that assignment.

Homework Standards

1. Use complete sentences!

2. Write the following heading on each paper:

French IBAssignment The assignment is to be neatly completed on a sheet of lined loose-leaf paper without torn edges.

4. Any homework that does not meet the homework standards will be returned with no credit and you will not receive credit until you have satisfied the standards.

5. Do your best!

Absences from Class

1. Make-up work is the responsibility of the student.In general, one day for each day absent will be given to make up assignments.

2. If you are absent on the day of a test, be prepared to take the test on the day you return. If you have been absent for a length of time, you will make an appointment to take the test as soon as you return.

3. You will find any classwork and homework papers at the Resource Center. If you have a question, please ask a classmate first. Madame is also available during mini-lessons, individually via the Help Board, and after school.

4. Place your make up work to be graded in the classroom homework basket.

5. Extra help is available to make up work.

6. If you miss class for a lesson, rehearsal, field trip, etc. you must see Madame during the day to turn in homework and receive missed assignments. You are NOT excused from the day’s activities and lessons.

Other Expectations

Please bring a three-ring binder, marble notebook, and folder to class each day. You will also need pens, pencils, index cards, & a French dictionary.Handouts are expected to be hole- punched and placed with the corresponding notes. Class notes should be reviewed every day to prepare for the next day’s lesson. Homework and DO NOW assessments will be provided each week.

Extra Help

Extra help is offered after school from

2:45 – 3:15 pm in H101.
