AMVETS VANGUARD

RANDY P. HILL POST 1957

ADRIAN, MI.

February 2008

FROM THE COMMANDER:

“All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing.”

-Edmund Burke

At this special time of the year, let us not forget to reach out to the men and women of our Armed Forces who believe, fight and give up their lives for our freedom. I would also like to take this opportunity to remind members that as of January 1, 2008 your annual membership dues are due. Also, all members are invited to attend the membership meetings held on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. As members your attendance, input, involvement, and support counts to sustain our club.

God Bless America. God Bless Our Troops.

Yours in Service

Ladies Auxiliary

The Auxiliary had their first Texas Hold Em tournament on January 12th. Thanks to all who attended. It was a great turn out and the Ladies are very appreciative. Thanks to Bob & Cheryl Bilyou, who worked diligently to get our new poker chips ready with the AMVETS logo on them. They look great. Also thanks to Rhonda Clark, & Cathy Sliker who gave up their busy Saturday to help out.

ATTENTION LADIES AUXILIARY MEMBERS!

The next Auxiliary meeting is February 18th and is also nominations for the 2008-2009 officers. Please mark your calendars and attend the meeting. We need all of the ladies to take an interest in the Auxiliary. It is for the “Good of the AMVETS” and the veterans families of LenaweeCounty and Michigan. See you on Monday February 18th!

Thank you,

Pat Miller

FYI

Some of the members are under the assumption that the AMVETS meetings are for AMVETS only. This is not the case. The meetings are open to ALL members of the post. Be it Auxiliary or Sons. We do encourage everyone to attend the meetings and keep abreast of what is going on at the post. This is “your” post. If you have an issues please make it heard at the meetings and not at the bar. This is what the meetings are for. We have open discussions for just such purposes. So mark your calendars and remember the AMVETS meetings are the 2nd Monday of every month. (Although, it was decided that there would not be a meeting in December of 2008 this year.)

Pool Tournaments

We have 2 up and coming pool tournaments booked for Saturday February 16th and Saturday March 15th. There will be sign ups starting at 11 a.m. and will start at 12 noon. We will be raising funds for projects at the post such as The Paul Hill Memorial Scholarship Fund. If you require any information please contact the post or Rob Hosken at 517-265-2017. These tournaments are for “adults only” and no children/teens will be permitted to enter. It is also a member’s only event. We will have more information posted at the club for you to view.

AMVETS Bingo is held every Wednesday and Friday at the FairgroundMerchantsBuilding.

Speed starts at 6:30 p.m. with regular bingo starting at approximately 7:30 p.m. Pull tabs, regular Jackpot and Progressive Jackpot games. Computerbingo is also available.

Just a reminder

All dues for the 2008 year were due and payable by December 31, 2007. If you have not renewed your dues you are no longer an active member. Many of the AMVETS received renewal letters from AMVETS National in the last part of 2007 with the dues showing $20.00 for renewal. This was an error and the AMVETS dues are actually $30.00 per year. If you have sent in your dues remittance at $20.00 they will not be processed until the additional $10.00 is received. Please review the form below to be advised of all the dues amounts for the groups within the AMVETS post. Remember a Life Membership for an active member is a great savings in the long run. It is a one time payment of $150.00 and you never have to worry about annual dues again. Something to think about.
