Job Description

NIFSS was set up in 2013 to act as one link between SportNI and the three governing bodies of shooting disciplines in NI. It acts as the centralised body to assist in the promotion of shooting as a safe sport and the promotion of the sport in general.

NIFSS consists of a Board of six members; an Independent Chair, a representative member from each of the three shooting disciplines and two Independent members. NIFSS are recruiting two new Independent Directors to serve for an initial period of three years.

About this Role

Independent Directors are appointed by open competition to serve in certain roles which are key to the development of shooting as it goes forward. The Independent Directors do not have to be involved in the Sport, but should be in a position to bring expertise advice in roles other than shooting.

The post is non-remunerated but reasonable expenses will be covered. Board meeting are held monthly.

Shooting sports in general do not in general attract good publicity and the role will cover ways of marketing the sport to the wider general public and promoting it as a way of instilling good discipline into young people.

NIFSS currently receives funding from SportNI for the development of elite athletes and ways are sought to positively promote the medal success they have brought to NI.

Fiduciary Duties

1.  To act as a Director of NIFSS in the best interests of the Board, with honesty and in good faith to its members, funding partners and the communities in which shooting operates.

2.  To use such personal and professional skills together with such contacts, experience and judgement as s/he posses with integrity and independence to optimise both the short term and long term positive image of shooting.

3.  To play a full part in enabling the Board to arrive at balanced and objective decisions in the performance of its agreed roles and functions, in line with its Constitution.

4.  To ensure that the objectives of the Board, as agreed by the Board, are fully, promptly and properly carried out.
