Raider Review – September 23, 2016

·  Seniors are reminded to turn in designs for senior apparel to Mr. McAbee in Room 629 by Friday, September 30.

·  Seniors should go to the Senior Webpage to find the link for the senior picnic. Please RSVP your intentions by October 4.

·  On October 14, Homecoming Day, Parkway Ford will be here to do a fundraiser for Reagan, “Drive for Your School.” Anyone 18 years and older with a valid drivers license may test drive a car during the school day from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Parkway Ford will donate $20 per driver. No sales pressure. It should take only 10 minutes. Teachers can go during their planning.

·  Need a new physical? Come on Saturday, October 15, from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM to the Main Gym and receive a physical for only $10.00. You must have a completed physical packet filled out before you can get your $10.00 physical. See the website or come to the Main Office to get a physical packet.

·  Student Government elections for freshmen and sophomores are open until Saturday. Students can vote through their school email. If you vote, you’re entered to win a Raider prize pack!

·  STAND UP STEP UP: The 6th Annual School & Community Walk & Rally Against Bullying is Saturday, October 8, at 8:00 AM. Come out to BB&T Ballpark and represent Reagan High School in the cause. Pre-register online at: http://wsfcs.k12.nc.us/site/Default.aspx?PageID=107547. Participation can be used as service hours!! See Mrs. Allen in Student Services if you’d like to join the team or have any questions.

·  FBLA - Please see Mr. Norwood in Room #404 for information on joining the FBLA “Future Business Leaders of America.” http://wsfcs.k12.nc.us/Page/82673. Our next meeting will be Thursday, October 6, at 3:40 PM.

·  Support Your Troops – Please stop by Mr. Norwood’s Room #404 to send a card to our military troops. Send a thank you card to a service man or woman. The cards will be provided.

·  Meals for Mr. Brown – Please contact Mr. Norwood if you are interested in helping provide meals for the family.

·  Sign up for Art Club by texting @artclub100 to 81010. Pay your $20.00 to Mrs. Willard or Ms. Evans. Dues will cover your materials and shirt. If you have ideas for a shirt design, email or drop it off with the art teachers!

·  The first Blood Drive of the year is being held on October 12. Tell your parents that they are also welcome to come and give during the day. They can sign up on line with the Red Cross and choose the Blood Drive at Reagan High School.

·  The Governor’s School of North Carolina is a six week summer residential program for intellectually gifted high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. The program, which is open to current juniors only, with exceptions made for sophomores in selected performing/visual arts areas, is located on two campuses of up to 300 students each. There will be an informational meeting for interested students on Wednesday, September 28, at 3:45 PM in the Media Center. To be eligible, students must meet selection criteria, including an achievement test score at, or above, the 92nd percentile. Interested juniors should plan to attend the informational meeting on Wednesday and additional information can be found at http://www.ncgovschool.org.

·  Seniors who are “Self-Nominating” for the NC State Park Scholarship: A scholarship ambassador from NC State will be here to talk with students about the process and the program on Monday, October 3, at 3:45 PM. Please contact Ms. Norris in Guidance before that date if you would like to meet with this scholarship representative.

·  The Department of Computer Science at UNC is hosting an open house for middle and high school students on October 15. Students will have the chance to participate in hands-on demonstrations, visit research labs to find out what computing is all about, and talk with current students about why they chose Computer Science at Carolina. Register to attend – spaces are limited!

·  The PreACT (formerly known as PLAN Test) will be given to all 10th grade students at Reagan during the school day on Wednesday, October 12, 2016. PreACT is required for all 10th graders in North Carolina. There is no cost or registration associated with the PreACT. This test is not accepted for college admission or qualification for merit scholarships. Rather, the PreACT offers parents and students an early view of student readiness to take the ACT during the 11th grade.

·  The PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is an optional test for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students. It will be given at Reagan during the school day on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 only to those students who have registered by the school’s deadlines.
