THE ROLE

The Community & Legacy Fundraising Manager post is based in our UK office near Rugby, although flexible working arrangements may be considered. It is a full-time position working 35 hours per week. The salary for this role is £36,848 - £41,132 per annum depending on experience.

JOB PROFILE

Job Title: Legacy & Community Fundraising Manager

Reporting to:Head of Individual Giving

SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF ROLE

Practical Action is ambitious for its work and for its fundraising. To deliver this we need strong fundraisers who are passionate about fundraising.

Your role will be responsible for proactively developing relationships with existing and new individual and community group supporters to develop, manage and implement a plan to maximise the number of legacy pledgers, In Memoriam and community based giving to Practical Action to build income from these sources for the charity. You will work closely with other teams to raise the profile of legacies as a key way of supporting Practical Action and ensure that legacy and community based giving is regularly promoted in supporter communications.

You will be responsible for introducing new initiatives and ways of working to secure future income generation from legacies and grow income from community based fundraising activities.

Working with a small team, you will provide operational management and hands-on project delivery to develop and expand legacy giving and community group fundraising to meet ambitious income targets.

You will be expected to develop productive relationships with Practical Action supporters, leading to securing and increasingcommunity based fundraising income and substantial future gifts to grow and develop the legacy income stream.

Legacies are a growing source of income for Practical Action and this post will be pivotal in developing both our legacy and community fundraising plans to deliver a total combined annual income of over £2.2 million.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Management

  • Lead and manage the Community & Legacy Fundraising team (currently two Fundraising Officers) identifying and resolving operational issues and taking responsibility for team performance ensuring all income targets and objectives are met.
  • Lead, motivate, develop, coach and ensure training is in place for all team members to enable them to deliver effectively in their roles.
  • Be open to all opportunities for maximising fundraising income, able to adapt and act with drive to make opportunities a reality even when timescales are short and resources are limited. This includes where appropriate responding to emergency situations in Practical Action’s countries of operation.
  • Ensure implementation and evaluation of the work within theteam.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of efficient and effective legacy and community fundraising procedures and processes.

Strategy development, delivery and management

  • Lead the development, creation and implementation of a coherent and compelling Community & Legacy fundraising strategy & annual plans (future proofing and digital first) with a focus on growth.
  • Monitor the performance of the Community & Legacy fundraising plan, adjust & reforecast budgets to reflect performance; minimising risk and exploiting opportunities.
  • Identify new, innovative and emerging opportunities to grow legacy and community based income and improve net contribution and prepare robust business cases for investment in such opportunities.
  • Work with the team to develop high quality fundraising campaigns and events to maximise income.
  • Develop and manage income and expenditure budgets to deliver to agreed objectives.
  • Contribute to the planning, delivery and evaluation of the overall Individual Giving fundraising strategy.

Fundraising planning, reporting and performance management

  • Work with the Head of Individual Giving to contribute to Individual Giving strategic plans taking specific responsibility for community fundraising and legacies in line with the overall Fundraising strategy;
  • Deliver the legacy and community fundraising plans (income and expenditure) and grow Practical Action’s income in line with our strategy.
  • Manage the Community and Legacy Fundraising team to identify and secure income and together with the team to build relationships with current and prospective supporters.
  • Work with the appointed direct marketing agency, fundraising team and other Practical Action staff to create effective Legacy and Community fundraising activities, using case studies, effective images and copy to communicate the need for legacy and community based gifts.
  • Lead on development and on-going management of the annual income and expenditure budget,overseeing legacy and community fundraising performance, reviewing budgets, targets and trends, reporting proactively to the Head of Individual Giving and providing monthly income reports.
  • Ensure community and legacy fundraising online presence and social media interaction is integrated into the wider fundraising digital strategy.
  • Manage the review, re-forecast and re-phase of income at key strategic periods. Adapt plans & reforecast budgets to reflect actual performance, opportunities & threats.
  • Work with the Insight Manager to monitor and understand the performance metrics of the community and legacy fundraising team. Track performance against targets and objectives and provide timely management information and insight.
  • Working together with colleagues, take a proactive and hands-on approach to the implementation and delivery of major integrated fundraising projects.

Relationship Management

  • Ensure the implementation of a well-defined supporter stewardship plan to ensure high quality relationship management to key legacy and community group supporters to deepen commitment to Practical Action’s work.
  • Undertake talks and presentations to existing and potential donors on behalf of Practical Action acting as a legacy champion for the organisation and raising profile at community events to secure support.
  • Maintain relationship management contact strategies on the Raiser’s Edge database.

Planning & Budgets

  • Be responsible for and monitor budgets of £2.2 million incomeand over £110,000 expenditure.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of the annual plans and budgets.
  • Contribute to monthly income reports and review meetings, writing and producing reports and campaign analysis as required.

Team working

  • Support the fundraising team as an effective team member, contributing to development through participating in (e.g.) progress reviews and team building activities.
  • Promote and contribute to a co-operative working ethos with other Practical Action teams in order to maximise effective working throughout the organisation.
  • Participate in promoting and developing the work of Practical Action through effective marketing of the vision and ideals of the organisation to external parties.
  • Promote, in all aspects of the above, the values and principles of Practical Action with regard to equality of opportunity.

Other responsibilities

  • Act as a fundraising ambassador ensuring cross-organisationrelationships are built and remain productive
  • Maintain awareness of sector trends and legislation that relate to Practical Action’s ability to grow its legacy and community based income.
  • Ensure Practical Action follows and champions best fundraising standards and supporter care practice and share and promote best practice, priorities and outcomes internally and externally.
  • Undertake other tasks reasonably requested by the Head of Individual Giving and Head of Fundraising.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

This post may be required to occasionally work unsocial hours and weekends away from the office, or overnight when necessary. The post will manage the Legacy Officer and Community Fundraising Officer and may also be required to supervise and delegate work to other junior team members and/or volunteers.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

SPECIFIC SKILLS & EXPERIENCE / ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
Degree level or relevant qualification or comparable experience in fundraising.
Post graduate or training in fundraising.
Proven experience in delivering legacy fundraising and In Memory campaigns, including working with solicitors and will-makers.
Experience in developing and delivering community and events fundraising campaigns, including working with community fundraising suppliers.
Excellent skills in people management, with strong relationship management skills to deliver excellent supporter care.
Proven track record in generating income from community based fundraising events.
Proven ability to deliver clear, concise fundraising communications that deliver income.
Proven ability in preparing and managing plans and budgets.
Evidence of excellent analytical skills.
IT literate, including the ability to use Microsoft office, or equivalent, and CRM databases preferably the Raiser’s Edge.
Good knowledge of charity law relating to legacy giving and fundraising.
Fluent English speaker, with excellent written English to A level standard. / 
