Weekly Thoughts:What children can do together today, they can do alone tomorrow.
*All children are gifted. Some just open their presents later than others.
* If we allow ourselves to give who we really are to the children in our care, we will in some way inspire cartwheels in their hearts. (Fred Rogers).

Our Star Studentfor the nextweek will be: Albert Z.
A Special Note
Many Room 22 children have not yet learned to tie their shoes. In order to make the most of the instructional time in the room, please help your child master this skill at home. This will help to eliminate distractions during teaching time as well as lessen the time it takes us to get ready for recess. Thank you!
Shoes and Dress code Notice
As the weather gets warmer, many children are coming to school with sandals. Please be sure your child’s sandals have a back strap. Flip flops are prohibited because of safety concerns. Also make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the playground and gym class. Thank you for your cooperation.
Oak’s Museum
Our field trip to the Oak’s Museum at Messiah University is on May 10th. Please be sure your child has sneakers and a packed lunch for the trip. The chaperones areMrs. Prince, Mrs. Farmen, Mrs. Jacobs and Mrs. Durnin. If you do not have your clearances through the district, please let me know. All chaperones must have clearances to attend a field trip. Please arrive at school no later then 9:00am and wear comfortable shoes! Thank you for your help!
Mrs. DREHER’s WIN Reading Homework
Please continue to read at home with your child. Books and folders should be sent back to school everyday in case I would like to use the books in my WIN group.
Many studies have shown that children who read at home develop a life-long love of reading and learning. Reading at home is statistically linked to successful reading at school. Thank you for helping your child to become a successful reader!

Reading Incentive
Please return your reading calendar on or before March 31st.
Thank you!

In math we will continue our work in Unit 8, assess Unit 8, and begin Unit 9 on the following skills and concepts: equal shares/ fractions, 2-D & 3-D shapes (building with, sorting by defining and non-defining attributes, making new shapes), telling time by the ½ hour, reviewing place value patterns, looking at number grid patterns, 10 more and 10 less problems, measuring objects and total cost of items.
Unit 9 is also a review chapter. Many of the previously taught concepts will be practiced during this unit.
Be sure to review counting money (quarters, dimes, nickels & pennies), exchanging money, and telling time.
Science
We will beginour FOSS/Scienceunit -“New Plants”. The New Plants Module provides experiences that heighten students' awareness of the diversity of life in the plant kingdom. Students care for plants to learn what they need to grow and develop. They observe the structures of flowering plants and discover ways to propagate new plants from mature plants (from seeds, bulbs, roots, and stem cuttings). They observe and describe changes that occur as plants grow, and organize their observations on a calendar and in a journal.
