COURSE DESCRIPTION

Russian 301 is an intermediate course designed to strengthen the foundations established in Russian 202. Students will practice listening, speaking, reading and writing on the basis of the previously covered materials; continue to build up their vocabulary and learn new elements of grammar.

Course objectives

Students should be able to interact in situations regularly encountered at work,school and leisure,understand easy radio and TV programmes, using obtained information to carry out tasks in everyday situations.

My hometown and family; Job search/Interview and Employment; Entertainment: going to cinema, theater,balet etc,; At the restaurant/fastfood restaurant/cafe/kitchen; My favorite style of clothing; At the university; Renting a flat; Holidays of Russia:customs and traditions; Geography of Russian Federation:travelling to Russia.

Main Grammar points

Accusative, Genitive, Prepositional cases of nouns,adjectives,personal and possessive pronouns (singular/plural forms); verbs with prefixes;prefixted verbs of motion; perfective/imperfective aspects of the verb.

Learning outcomes

Students can ponder on language learning, understand and make use of instructions, advertisements, talk and discuss topics of current events.

Teaching methods

This course is based on communicative approach with the emphasis on audio- oral skills.

Teaching technicques

Role-plays, pair/group discussions, expanding, skimming, scanning,summarising, paraphrasing will be widely used.

General rules

Come to class prepared. This includes bringing your books, notebooks, homework, etc.

Turn off your cell phones before entering class.

Even if you miss a class you will be responsible for the material covered during that class.

Do not be late.İt is disruptive. Students who are more than 10 minutes late for any class will be marked as late on the attendance sheet. Three late marks will be equivalent to one unexcused absence. Each student is allowed 5 absences. Each subsequent absence will low your participation grade by 1.5 %.
