Program Requirements
The following is a checklist of the requirements for the Certificate in Global Studies. All courses and experiences should be selected in conjunction with your Program Advisor and your Global Studies Advisor.
_____ Global Studies Orientation
Participation in the Global Studies Orientation session introduces the benefits, opportunities, expectations, and requirements of the Global Studies Certificate. A signed agreement must be held by your Global Studies Advisor.
______Global Studies Electives
15 credits must be successfully completed from the designated global studies courses across a minimum of three disciplines. Transfer courses must demonstrate appropriate global content via syllabus, global component or objectives. See your Global Studies Advisor for the most current listing.
_____ Global/International Resume
Completion of a resume outlining global experiences and letters of reference. See Career Services Director for details.
_____ Global Studies Capstone Experience (established in conjunction with Global Studies & Program Advisor)
Completion of an international project, research, competition, community service, service learning, or travel study experience, which
leads to a demonstration of competency and leadership in the field of global studies.
______Global Immersion
Participation in global, cultural, or diversity related activities outside the regular classroom experience. Select four of the following
six activity categories (documentation must be provided):
o Attendance at conferences, lectures, or workshops related to other cultures or global issues
o Completion of the U.S. Institute of Peace Certification, http://www.usip.org/events/introduction-conflict-analysis In one of the following areas: Conflict Analysis, Interfaith Conflict Resolution, or Negotiations and Conflict Management
o Active membership in a professional group or community organization related to global issues
o An international travel experience: trip requirements must be pre-arranged with program advisor prior to departure
o Complete a review and study guide on the book *“Cultural Intelligence: A Guide to working with People from Other Culture’s” by Brooks Peterson. This textbook can be found online in the Ivy Tech Library. (*or regionally-determined book.)
