  1. Whatdoyoudo?

I work as a PA/Administrative Officer based in Aberdeen and my role is split between providing general administrative support to the office and providing direct secretariat support to the Marine Operations Director (John Goold). It can be an interesting and diverse role!

  1. What was your first ever job?

My first ever job was working at an Italian café serving pasta and ice-cream to hungry shoppers (the café was based in a shopping centreand on a Saturday got very busy!). The job sparked my love for Italian food and still to this day is my favourite cuisine!

  1. What’sthe biggestlessonyouhavelearnedinyour career todate?

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to not be afraid to ask questions – it shows you are committed to completing a task efficiently and enthusiastic about learning! No question is a silly question!

  1. What wouldyou doifyou didn’t work for JNCC?

Something related to fashion or travel which combines my two passions in life! Either that or something involved with animals :)

5.Whatis yourfavouriteplaceintheworld?

If I had to choose a favourite country (which is a tough decision!), I would have to say Italy – I visited Rome and Naples a few years ago and fell in love with the culture, lifestyleand of course the food (I mean, Italy is home of the pizza and gelato – what’s not to love?!) and beautiful architecture! Paris is another special place to me – it’s a very charming city close to my heart and I’m yearning to return!

6.Whatis theworld’s bestinvention?

There are so many genius inventions we use every day and take for granted! I would have to choose the airplane due to my love of travel! The airplane revolutionized the way we travel and where would be without it?! The amazing reality that we can jump on a plane and arrive in an exotic location within a few short hours is incredible!

  1. Whatmakes youproud toworkfor JNCC?

It makes me proud to work for a government body which contributes significant research and advice to protect andconserve our ecosystems and natural world.It’s a great feeling to be part of something that has a direct impact on our wildlife and environment!

  1. Whatdoyoulookfor inaleader?

I think being approachable is a crucial skill to have as a leader as it’s important for staff to feel confident to ask for support when needed. Also, being able to motivate staff and acknowledge their achievements are equally as important.

  1. What’sthemostrewardingpart ofyour job?

Working as a PA/Administrative Officer enables me to be involved with a variety of different teams across JNCC andsupport individualsto help them run their projects more efficiently. It’s rewarding to know you are helping to achieve the “bigger picture”.

10.Whatis your greatestachievement?

My greatest achievement would have to be running the Edinburgh Marathon last year. It involved 6 months of training and I realised that it was more of a mental than physical challenge the majority of the time! The crowds in Edinburgh were so supportive and kept me going - I look back on it with fond memories (I’ve blocked out the tough times!) and would love to do another one further afield!

11.Howdoyou achievea goodwork lifebalance?

I enjoy running after work, I think it’s a great way to clear your mind and get outdoors after a long day in the office!I also enjoy meeting friends for dinner or going to the cinema/theatre in my spare time.

12. What TV Show do you never miss?

I never miss The Graham Norton Show on a Friday night, it’s an entertaining show to end the week and never fails to make me laugh! I’m also a fan of Springwatch or most wildlife shows to be honest!
