SIG PURPOSES:
1. To support the mission statement of ONS.
2. To provide and promote a dynamic network for subspecialized nurses within ONS.
3. To serve as a forum for communication within the interest area.
4. To identify and explore patient care issues within the interest area.
5. To address current trends and issues within the interest area.
6. To share educational resources and clinical expertise with other Special Interest Groups,
various ONS Advisory Panels/Project Teams and the membership-at-large.

1. Limited membership involvement in SIG activities- specific solicitation for newsletters, active involvement of new people in Congress proposal writing, Communiques between newsletters with query questions to be summarized in the newsletter, attempt to develop a mentorship process.

2. Virtual Community little used- linking newsletter items and SIG Presentation slides to VC, Posting picture of Coordinator to encourage more personal approach, awaiting new VC coming

3. Published only 2 newsletters (3 submitted within timeframe)- we lost a planned newsletter editor and have not replaced or recovered. The leadership is actively recruiting a coordinator candidate and newsletter editor candidate

XIV. COLLABORATIONS (ONS, SIGS, ETC.):

The Roundtable for Critical Care Policy Development is a private group of expert practitioners who have been actively involved in providing consultation to US Congressional and Senatorial legislators regarding special aspects of Critical care practice. The group meets quarterly and the three work groups are: 1) cost effectiveness research, 2) critical care practice in crisis and natural disasters, and 3) end of life care. Brenda Shelton sits on this committee representing ONS and this SIG.
