CLASS TITLE:EQUIPMENT OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST - DMS

This is work assisting in developing and implementing a statewide equipment maintenance program for the effective and efficient management of state equipment. The employee(s) in position(s) allocated to this class exercise(s) independent judgment in form

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Assists in developing and conducting training programs such as preventive maintenance practices, standardized shop procedures, parts acquisition controls, equipment cost summary, inventory reports, and equipment utilization reports.
  • Provides assistance in developing and evaluating all procedures governing equipment servicing schedules, equipment management practices, equipment warranty compliances, and safety inspection.
  • Conducts inspections of maintenance facilities to ensure compliance with program objectives.
  • Provides technical assistance to maintenance facilities managerial personnel regarding problems related to shop equipment operations, warranty, and equipment maintenance and service.
  • Assists in analyzing excessive equipment maintenance and servicing costs and takes action to bring costs in line.
  • Assists in monitoring maintenance shop facilities to assure efficient utilization and personnel.
  • Assists in establishing contracts for maintenance and service when economically feasible.
  • Assists in developing and directing a preventive maintenance program for all state equipment.
  • Researches new maintenance and service practices to evaluate the feasibility of application to state needs.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Knowledge of the principles and methods of equipment maintenance and utilization operations.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of record keeping monitoring techniques.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate and conduct training programs.
  • Ability to inspect records to ensure that equipment is properly serviced under a maintenance management system.
  • Ability to develop and evaluate equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to monitor shop operations.
  • Ability to establish contracts for maintenance and service.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in automotive fleet operations.
  • Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
