Treadway P. And Mark D. Strickland Diversity Award

The Treadway P. And Mark D. Strickland Diversity Award is made possible through a generous gift from Treadway and Mark Strickland. The purpose of the fund is to assist deserving undergraduate and graduate students continue their education at The University of Mississippi.

The Supreme Judicial Court in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts declared in November, 2003 that: “the Constitution of the Commonwealth Massachusetts does not allow for the creation of ‘second class citizens’,” thereby paving the way for the historic 2004 marriage of Tread and Mark Strickland in Boston, Massachusetts in 2004. Formerly known as George Treadway Pearson, Tread Strickland graduated from The University of Mississippi in 1978 with dual majors: a BS Journalism & Advertising, and Bachelor of Business Administration & Marketing. He went on to earn an MA in Radio & Television from Ole Miss in 1980. Mark Dermott Strickland graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Trinity College in 1977, and received a Master of Social Work degree (MSW) from the University of Connecticut in 1982. Tread spent majority of his professional career as an Administrative Director at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, while Mark’s career has been in managed health care sales, account management and benefits design consulting for national Fortune 500 firms.
