Berkshire Netball Under 14 Academy Trials 2014/15

Dear Parent/Carer

Your daughter has been identified as having the potential to develop her netball skills through England Netball’s Performance Pathway and is being nominated to attend trials for Berkshire Netball’s Under 14 Satellite Academy programme.

The purpose of the Academy programme is to provide performance-enhancing training for individuals rather than for a squad of players. Competition is seen as valuable and although there is an element of match play within the programme it is essential that all Academy athletes gain match experience through playing netball at club level in leagues and tournaments as well as at school.

Academies will also provide an opportunity for players to be seen by the Regional Performance Coach, and potentially to move up the England Netball Performance Pathway.

The first round of trials for this year’s Satellite Academy will take place on Thursday 5th, 12th and 19th June at Loddon Valley Leisure Centre, Lower Earley, READING from 6.30-9.30pm (registration from 6.30-6.45pm). Athletes will only be expected to attend one of these trials sessions. Confirmation of which date they have been allocated will be sent by 1st June. Please indicate on the trial form if your daughter is not available on any of the trial dates. Athletes who are selected from the three preliminary trial sessions will be expected to complete a home training programme over the summer and to attend a final trial on Saturday 13th September at Loddon Valley Leisure Centre from 12.30-2.30pm (registration from 12pm.) The trial fee of £5 is payable at the first trial by cash or cheque made payable to Berkshire Netball.

Triallists should wear/bring the following:-

  • Tracksuit bottoms/top
  • White t-shirt/polo shirt
  • Dark skirt/shorts (no school or club logos should be visible)
Appropriate footwear for indoor training
  • White sports socks (not trainer socks)
  • No jewellery is permitted (All piercings must be removed – no taping)
  • Plenty to drink (sports drink and water)
  • Snack
Important – please note the following before entering the trials:-
  • Successful athletes will be expected to participate in a programme of fortnightly training sessions which will include netball skills, fitness, strength and conditioning. There will also be some inter-County Academy play days at weekends.
  • Successful athletes are expected to undertake home training. The expectation is that a Satellite Academy Athlete will complete approximately 14 hours of training a week either through club training and matches, Academy sessions, home training (strength and conditioning and fitness) or training for any other sport at a similar level. There will be regular fitness testing throughout the programme to enable progress to be monitored and measured. Athletes who fail to commit to the level of training required or fail to attend sessions without a valid reason may be asked to leave the programme.
  • If selected, athletes will need to be individually affiliated to England Netball, South Region and Berkshire Netball to participate in the Academy sessions.
  • All athletes who are selected for the Academy MUST be members of an England Netball CAPS accredited club and MUST commit to regularly attending club training sessions and regularly playing club matches.
  • The cost of the Satellite Academy sessions will be approximately £95 per athlete which includes coaching sessions, Academy t-shirt, netball, skipping rope and player handbook.

The completed form should be returned via email to by Friday 30th May or posted to Sarah Feast, 2 Micklands Road, Caversham, READING RG4 6LT.
