To succeed on this exam, you should be able to:
- Explain the difference between human and physical geography. Identify or provide examples of each while explaining the connections between them.
- Describe climate change and its impact on the world. Describe both the causes and impacts of climate change.
- Explain the difference between renewable and nonrenewable resources. Identify examples of each.
- Describe a traditional Indigenous view of nature.Identify current examples of conflict between Indigenous people and the Canadian government over natural resources.
- Briefly describe the issues surrounding natural resources (Canadian mining companies abroad, Bipole III, oil sands, etc).
- Identify issues of sustainability surrounding water both locally and globally
- Use lines of longitude and latitude to identify locations.
- Understand aboriginal hunting/fishing rights: Their purpose, their provisions, their limits.
- Identify the varying perspectives that exist concerning the oil sands. Where possible, use detailed stats or data to support your ideas.
- Understand the argument surrounding GMOs (Pros and Cons)
- Explain the concept of globalization and identify the ways it has positively/negatively influenced our world. Identify examples of globalization in your daily life.
- Differentiate between concepts of Fair Trade and Free Trade. Explain the strengths and weaknesses of each.
- Explain the concept of sustainable development. You should be able to identify the environmental, economical, and societal elements of sustainability the issues above.
Long answer – You will be asked to write an argumentative essay that will combine many ideas from across units. The essay question will be taken from the topics above.
