I Love Photo Buttons
Combining Photos, Texts, & Graphics in a Circular Format
The Button “Shell”
1. The Format for our buttons is….
a. an overall “cut-out” size of 2.375 inches
b. a “finished” image size of 2.125 inches
2. Open the Word Doc “Button Blanks 2011.doc”
a. There are NINE blanks to use
b. Make sure nothing important is touching the inner circle
c. Make your design flow past the inner circle into the outer circle
d. The parts of your design in the “buffer” will wrap around to the back of the button.

3. The theme of our finished buttons is to promote students to learn about our Photography Program.
4. The following sayings must be used
a. “I Love Photo” or Photography or PhotoMedia (could also be “ I Photo”, etc.)
b. “Ask me about my Photos”
i. or “Ask me about my Photo Class” or “Ask me about Photo Media”
c. Other buttons with creative sayings you create based upon theme.
Use your own Photos as Backgrounds
5. One button will be ONLY your personal photograph
a. It will crop as a circle,
b. Be sure to choose a good photo that will crop well
c. No other text or graphic will be on this button
6. The button that says… “ask me about…” MUST have your own photo as a background
7. Other buttons with your photos as your creativity guides you.
Adding Text to your Button
8. Be sure to address the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design as you create your buttons
9. Your need to balance Easy Readability with Artistic Expression
10. Most students use WordArt, but you could also create regular text in a “text box”
Use of “Clip Art”
11. By saying “clip art”, we mean images captured off the computer
a. Could be a drawing, a word, a photograph, an icon…. Whatever !!!
b. Could also be existing artwork scanned from printed media
12. Use only “royalty-free” clip art.
a. We must be ethical – don’t “steal” other people’s intellectual property
b. If you did not create it, then you do not own it -- you must get permission to use these items.
13. Please submit ONE button made using clip art
a. Ideally, most of the buttons you create should have your own artwork, not that of others.
When you are done designing
14. Make sure your NAME and PERIOD are on the page somewhere
15. Arrange your screen so the entire page is visible
16. See the teacher and ask for a “screen check, computer 65”
17. If the teacher gives you approval, print out a monochrome copy to the HP 4100
a. Turn this in to the teacher for evaluation
18. Now print out a color version. Log in on the MAC MINI and print ONE copy to the HP DesignJet 130
a. Give this color print to the teacher for button making.
