LISTENING LIKE A WRITER

The Embodied Experience of Analytic Listening

Fred L. Griffin, MD

Saturday, September 13, 2014

9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon

This is a mini-workshop intended to expand sensibility in psychoanalytic listening. It is adapted from a ten-session seminar in which participants did a close reading of Virginia Woolf’s To the Lighthouse coupled with the presentation of analytic case material.

Following a presentation in which Dr. Griffin will provide a conceptual framework for the use of imaginative literature to teach analytic listening, the participants will be presented with selected excerpts from To the Lighthouse, to which they will do a piece of free writing about a clinical experience that comes to mind. Several participants may then choose to read aloud what they have written for purposes of group discussion.

The full listing of DPC programs, for 2014-2015, will be available next week. Details will be provided in Friday Notes and on the website (which is currently being revised).
