SCENE ONE
[It opens in Dr Sidney’s room, Tina is seen soliloquizing, and lamenting about her husband’s suspicious attitude]
TINA [Looks at the wall clock, to observe the time] Hmm….wonders shall never end, its 10pm and someone that claims to be a married man is still outside his home. [Sighs] I wonder what to do [she looks at the children lying on the sofa] Helpless children they have fallen asleep after waiting so long for their daddy to return so that they will welcome him, we are going to sleep[she calls on Martha] Nne come let’s take this children to their room.
[Enters Dr Sidney drunk, he staggers in and is about to undress, when Tina opened her eyes]
TINA Sidney, where are you coming from? What have I done to deserve this type of treatment, you left the house since morning only to return home drunk and late [almost crying} does it show any sign of regard for me?
DR SIDNEY Sweetie you complain a lot eh! What about my little angels? Have they gone to bed [he draws closer to give her a peck and she pushes him aside]
TINA Don’t you dare touch me, after messing up yourself, you came back home to kiss me [perceives his mouth] just take a good look at yourself eh.How bad you smells, you have suddenly turned into a drunkard [she sighs] I can’t sleep on the same with you….no not even when you are in this mess.[she leaves the room for him]
SCENE TWO
[Dr Sidney’s room, he is preparing for work, comes to the sitting room to apologize to his wife before going to work]
DR SIDNEY [Coming towards his wife] Darling, good morning, how was your night?
TINA [Silent and frowns]
CHILDREN [On seeing their daddy rush to greet him] Daddy good morning to you
DR SIDNEY Hello children, how are you? [Patting their backs]
CHILDREN we are fine daddy but we are not happy…….
DR SIDNEY Hey! My angels said they are not happy, what went wrong sweeties [asking surprisingly]
PERCULIAR [Frowns] because we waited for you last night to return, so that you will tell us stories but you didn’t come back until we slept
DR SIDNEY You know that daddy is a medical doctor, and doctors are always engaged
TEMPLE Noble my friend in school said that his daddy spends time with at home, but you hardly have our time
DR SIDNEY Don’t worry children, daddy will make it up to you okay? [Carrying them on his laps] I am going to make you guys happy today okay? Common give me that smile [referring to both]
CHILDREN Okay daddy [smiles]
TEMPLE Daddy remember, you promised to buy pizza, Pringles and ice cream for us the other day
DR SIDNEY Yes daddy will still fulfill his promises okay?
CHILDREN Thank you daddy
DR SIDNEY [Moves to his wife, who had no interest in his discussions with the children, to plead with her for his wrong deeds] Darling I am sorry please, it wasn’t actually my fault, there was an emergency at the hospital, so I had to attend to the patient immediately. You know it is a case of life and death, so I had to safe his life. Please forgive me i promise it won’t repeat…………
TINA [Angrily] Spare me that sermon Sidney, what do you take me for? A fool I guess……well I have nothing much to say, just continue living your life as you like. You shall soon live to regret it if you do not amend your ways.
DR SIDNEY Honey you are hurting me with your words. What makes you think am lying to you dear, Have I ever told you lies? I have told you nothing but the truth. You know I love you so much and wouldn’t do anything that will hurt you. Please!!
TINA You came home drunk and you think you can convince me with those pretty lies of yours.Mitcheww! Just leave me alone Sidney, let me be [Calls on Martha] Nne! Martha!
MARTHA (Runs out from the kitchen to the sitting room) Yes auntie
TINA Get this children ready for school
MARTHA Okay ma (she leaves to prepare the children)
TINA (To the children) Good children?
CHILDREN Yes mummy……
TINA Off to school we go
CHILDREN Okay mummy (hurries to get their school bags and lunch baskets, bids their daddy goodbye) see you later daddy
DR SIDNEY Take care angels, remember daddy loves you (They enters into the car and drove off, leaving Sidney confused)
DR SIDNEY (Soliloquizing) Women and their trouble, who cares? Sidney just play your games neatly, nothing spoil (he calls on MARTHA to come and shut the door as he leaves) (light fades)
SCENE THREE
(Opens in Dr Sidney’s office, his phone rings, he picks up his call to speak with his old time friend CASMIR)
DR SIDNEY Hello Cassy!
CASMIR My man what’s up nah? Longest time oh, how have you been?
DR SIDNEY I’m very well dear, long time indeed. How is your family? Hope everyone is fine?
CASMIR (Laughing) they are fine, we thank God
DR SIDNEY Haha! See how deep your voice is sounding, I know you must have grown so fat, all thanks to your wife, her good works are obvious
CASMIR Hahaha! Sidney you will never cease to amuse me (still laughing) Am in Enugu currently, I came for my company’s executive board meeting. I hope to see you
DR SIDNEY That’s lovely, I can’t wait to see you again (he hurries off to Oakland resorts to meet him)
CASMIR (hailing him) the prince….. (They embrace each other) my man you are not looking bad at all
DR SIDNEY Haha! And you too my dear. What a great re union. When will you be going back?
CASMIR Am supposed to go back in three days time (responds happily) but am going to spend extra day with you. You know it’s been long nah
DR SIDNEY (so excited) it’s been long my brother Wow!! That will be great. Am going to take you round the town, there will be enough enjoyment via that way. Okwa ighotasigo? (Both laughing)
CASMIR Bad fellow, I fancy your way oh (light fades)
SCENE FOUR
(Opens in a clubbing atmosphere, DR SIDNEY and CASMIR are seen each of them with his girl, dancing and drinking)
CASMIR Prince eh, you sabi good things. Can you imagine, so this is what you have been enjoying all this while? No wonder you are looking this refreshed (both laughing)
DR SIDNEY Cassy wetin man go do nah,you know after all these stress we pass through every day, one needs to relax his nerves with fresh chicks (referring to the girls) You know this world is sweet with them on ones side.
CASMIR (Hailing him) the prince!! Never a dull moment with you, but wait oh,what of your wife?
DR SIDNEY she is there nah, always nagging. The other day I came back late, she started complaining, but guess what…….
CASMIR What? (In suspense)
DR SIDNEY I ignored her stupid statements and continued with my life jaare!
CASMIR Prince-prince! I trust you nah, No be you again….
DR SIDNEY Ehen! Before I forget, let me call her now and tell her that I won’t come home this night, that am entering theatre to operate on a patient.(he picks his phone and calls her, after which they retired to their respective hotel rooms with the girls) (light fades)
SCENE FIVE
(TINA is seated on the bed in her bedroom, she is lost in thought, finally she came up with the idea of retaliation by becoming unfaithful, and she started living an infidel life, leaving the children’s affairs aside enjoying life)
TINA (Calling on Martha) Martha!
MARTHA Yes ma
TINA Am going out, take good care of my children, make sure you help them with their assignments when they comes back from school. See you in the evening.(she leaves the house, standing by the roadside, calls her lover
To come and pick her up)
SEN.PASCHAL (Pulls over, and she hops in) my love, how are you? (Drops a peck on her chicks)
TINA I missed you dear
SEN.PASCHAL same with me, so where are we spending our time today my lady?
TINA Em……Golden toast guest house is okay (they drove off to the place to Catch fun)
DR SIDNEY (Return home late to discover that his wife is not at home) Martha! Where is this girl (angrily?)
MARTHA Yes sir
DR SIDNEY Where is your auntie and where are my children?
MARTHA My auntie left the house since afternoon and the children are sleeping in their room.
TINA (enters Tina on sexy dress) Good evening Sidney
DR SIDNEY (Angrily) where are you coming from, dressed like this?
TINA (Walks out on him) exactly the same place you normally come from every night drunk. Please spare me those stupid questions of yours.(they leaves the stage and light fades)
SCENE SIX
(It’s Valentine’s Day, at night Tina got dressed up indecently to go out with her lover)
TINA Martha dear, lure this children to sleep, since their father is not yet back
MARTHA Okay ma (she takes the children to their room)
TINA (Calls Sen. paschal on phone) Hello Honey! Yea am through, come and pick me (she smiles) don’t keep your baby waiting oh
SEN.PASCHAL (arrives at Tina’s place, they left for Villa Toscana for the Valentine’s Day mask party) Baby seriously I can’t stop loving you. You are so charming.
TINA (Shyly) Thank you honey. (They move to the dance floor, enters Dr Sidney and his lover Cindy)
DR SIDNEY (To Cindy) Baby I will spoil you with drinks tonight, hope you are ready because it’s going to be fun this night
CINDY Of course, you know what I can do, for this night no dulling.(both laughing and sipping their drinks, the whole place is filled up with lovers on the dance floor, suddenly the atmosphere changed)
ARM ROBBERS (enters) everybody surrender whatever you have. Your money or your life (with a harsh voice, beating them and removing their mask) If you move we shoot …..Quiet everybody!!(At this point Dr Sidney and his wife met, both looking surprised and confused, what a clash)
(Light fades)
