COURSE INFORMATION:

This is a 2-day lecture and practical course devoted to preparing candidates for the SPC Certificate practical exam.

This course will also benefit therapists not currently challenging the exam but who work with athletes in a clinic setting & would like to increase their competency covering sporting events.

At the end of the course, the participant should be able to:

  • Perform functional taping, strapping & sling techniques
  • Competently manage an emergency sporting scenario
  • Perform a detailed sideline assessment for concussion
  • Demonstrate functional testing to assess ability to return to sport
  • Apply principles of exercise physiology to several case studies
  • Analyze, compare & contrast various pieces of protective sporting equipment
  • Perform effective sports massage

This course is meant primarily as a review and practical practice session. Please come prepared, having previously reviewed the relevant topics relating to the Certificate Exam. Review the marking guide and make yourself familiar with what examiners will be expecting of you. Please refer to the SPC or SPBC website for detailed information about the Certificate exam curriculum and examination process.

10:45 am – 1:00 pm: Sports Massage (Matt Furlott)

1-2 pm: Lunch (not included in fee)

2pm - 5 pm: Athletic taping

Mock Exam – This exam is meant to be a practice exam for those people who are challenging the Certificate exam in the current year. The exam will cover all stations required for the Certificate exam, including Emergency Care. SPC examination guidelines will be followed.
