NIGHT SCHOOL 2012-2013

GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS

1. IMPORTANT DATES:

Night School classes run from:

September 26, 2012 to Jan 21, 2013 in Semester 1

February 20, 2013 to June 12, 2013 in Semester 2

All classes run from 6:00 to 9:15 P.M.

All courses run for 3.25 hours each evening.

Semester 1:

Final Exams: Monday, January 14, 2013

Student Success: Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Report Cards to be picked up by students on:

Monday, January 21, 2013

Semester 2:

Final Exams: Wednesday, June 5, 2013

Student Success: Monday, June 10, 2013

2. REPORT CARDS/MARKS

Midterm Report Cards:

Night School Semester 1 Nov. 14, 2012

Night School Semester 2 April 17, 2013

Mid-term reports must be returned to your teacher with a parental signature.

Final Report Cards:

Night School Semester 1 January 21, 2013

Night School Semester 2 June 12, 2013

Students must show this report card to the guidance department at their home school in September to ensure that each course is added to their student transcript and that timetables are updated.

3. ACCIDENTS AND/OR ILLNESS

a) All accidents occurring on the school premises should be reported immediately to the Night/Saturday School Office. If necessary, parents will be notified.

b) If a student becomes ill during the school day, s/he must report to the principal and officially sign out. Failing to do so, will result in the student being marked absent.

4. ATTENDANCE

a) Attendance in all classes is necessary for success.

b) Parents/guardians will be contacted if attendance is a concern. (Unless a medical certificate is submitted).

c) Parents are requested to phone the school office.

d)  Skipped classes (including partial classes) will be recorded as an absence.

e)  Students will normally not be permitted to leave their classrooms except at the scheduled breaks and must never leave class without a Hall Pass. Students should make a conscious effort to use the washroom facilities before class, at break, or after school. Those with a medical condition that requires them frequent access to the washroom should bring in a doctor’s note to support this claim.

5. BEHAVIOUR

In order to foster the development and growth of a Christian community, the following is expected of our students:

è courteous behaviour both on and off the school property,

è use of language appropriate to a Christian community,

è orderly conduct throughout the school day (no fighting or loitering in the corridors, cars, or parking lot),

è to wear appropriate clothing, no beach wear. Students wearing inappropriate clothing will be sent home. Cut off shorts and tank tops are not permitted.

è attendance at all classes, assemblies and Masses,

è  no smoking on or near the school property,

è  no personal electronic devices (no PEDS)

è care of textbooks and equipment, particularly careful not to litter,

è to leave classrooms neat and tidy,

è care and maintenance of school grounds,

è respect for the personal property of others,

è protect yourself against theft (do not bring valuables to school).

6. EARLY LEAVES

Early leaves are not encouraged. Any student wishing an early leave must bring a note from their parent to the Principal before classes begin and sign the "Early Leave Book" before leaving.

NOTE: No student may leave the school during school hours without authorization from their parents and the Night/Saturday School Office.

7. LIBRARY

The Library is not available for use by Night/Saturday school students.

8. LOCKERS

Lockers are not to be used during Night/Saturday school.

9. LOST AND FOUND

The lost and found is located in the Night/Saturday School Office.

10. PUNCTUALITY

Students are encourage to arrive on time and prepared to work if they arrive more than 10 minutes late they must officially sign in and obtain an admit slip from the Night/Saturday School Office. Whenever possible students must bring a note from parents explaining their tardiness. Students arriving late from break will be marked late on the teacher's attendance.

11. SMOKING / DRUGS / ALCOHOL

No smoking of any nature, drinking of alcoholic beverages, or taking non-prescribed drugs is allowed on school property. Violation of this regulation will mean contact with parents. Depending on the offence, suspension or involvement of the police may result.

12. TEXTBOOKS AND EQUIPMENT

Students must replace any lost textbooks or equipment they damage during summer school. Students will not be allowed to write their final exams until their text(s) or the monetary equivalent is returned to the teacher of the course.

13. ACCESS TO THE SCHOOL

Students do not have access to the entire school. NO STUDENT is allowed to wander through the school at any time. Students are not allowed in the building more than 30 minutes before the start of class and must leave by 30 minutes after classes end.

14. EARLY NIGHT SCHOOL LEAVE

Under no circumstances, will a student be allowed to write their exam(s) before the scheduled exam date. Students who withdraw from Night School before the mid-session report will be given a “DNW” or no mark.

Students who do not wish to have their course appear on their transcript must withdraw by the following dates:

Night School Semester 1: Dec. 10, 2012

Night School Semester 2 May 13, 2013

Students who do not write their final exam will receive a failing grade.

A compulsory final examination is required by every student before any credit will be approved.

15. VISITORS

Unauthorized personnel are not allowed on school property. All visitors must report to the school office.

16. FIRE ALARM/LOCK DOWN DRILL

A fire exit route is posted in each classroom. If the alarm rings everyone should leave the building and the teacher will use the Attendance Register to account for students. Please follow your teacher's instructions. When outside the building, please move away from the building and portables and assemble in the designated areas.

17. PARENTAL NOTES

All absences, lates, and early leaves should be supported with a parental note. These notes will be filed with the School Principal.

A positive attitude, respect for others, and personal commitment will make Night School a pleasant and successful experience.
