A. The meeting was called to order by R. Silk at 6:32 p.m.

C. R. Silk led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.

D. Approval of the Consent Agenda:

15-63 Motion by P. Savant, seconded by P. Wendling to accept the consent agenda as presented. Yeas: A. George, W. Mann, T. Martinek, M. Robinson, P. Savant, R. Silk, P. Wendling. Nays: None. Motion carried.

F. Administrators’ Reports:

  1. Elementary/Middle School Principal – Kristi Poel
  • Elementary Picture Day went well and a special Thank You to our volunteers Linda Wangbichler and Katie Menestrina for their help
  • Constitution Day was September 17th – Many miscellaneous activities took place across the grade levels-ie: Watched live-feed program from the National Constitution Center including a tour of the building and a question/answer session with a judge; read scenarios on Constitutional issues, discussed as a group and then told them how the Supreme Court ruled; To 10 Constitutional Facts.
  • Fire Safety will be October 5 –presented by Bellaire Fire Department
  • Bellaire Youth Center starts Tuesday, October 6th in the Elementary; October 8th will begin the Middle School which will be at the Bellaire United Methodist Church. The new Director of the Bellaire Youth Center is Deb Goldenberg.
  • On Stage 4 Kids will be at the BPS on November 10th this if for Elementary, Middle School & High School. The “exciting” part is Joshua Davis & Band will be apart of the presentation.

2. Jim Emery updated the Board on the following items:

  • Start of the Year…

We've been in session now a total of 15 days (counting today) and it appears that things have gotten off to a great start. Students are settling into their academic routines, athletic teams have been participating for over a month, and the band has already performed at one of our home games and sounded great. We are currently sitting at 382 students, which is up slightly over this time a year ago.

  • Homecoming

September 28 through October 2 marks our annual "Spirit Week" at BHS. This year's overall theme is "Fall Fest" and HS students are encouraged to dress up each day according to the following schedule:

Monday - Costume Day; Tuesday - Typical Teen Day; Wednesday - Powder Puff;

Thursday - "Jersday" or Jersey Day; and Friday - Red & Black Day

On Friday, the homecoming parade will begin at 5:00 pm, traveling from the post office, north to the Methodist Church parking lot. The Eagles then take on Pickford on Friday night – game time is 7:00 pm; the HS Homecoming Dance is from 8:00-11:00 pm on Saturday.

  • NHS Blood Drive

NHS and Michigan Blood are teaming up again this year to hold blood drives here at the high school. The first one of the year will take place from 10:00 am -2:00 pm this Wednesday (September 30).

  • Flu shot Clinic

We are currently working with Rhonda Decker and the health department to schedule a flu shot clinic in late October that would be for anyone in the community and possibly neighboring communities as well.

  • Two Coaching Openings: 8th grade girls basketball & 7th grade boys' basketball positions
  • College Night: Tuesday, October 13, 2015 -6:00-8:00pm, Hagerty Center 715 East Front Street, Traverse City, MI. Located at the Great Lakes Campus of Northwestern Michigan College (on the bay next to the Holiday Inn). The Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District and the Great Lakes Maritime Academy announce the 2015 Grand Traverse Area College Night, a MACRAO sanctioned event. Opportunity for high school students to meet directly with representatives from over 50 colleges and universities. All are cordially invited.
