Teachers New to the Sinsheimer Family
Please join me in welcoming Kelley Craft to Sinsheimer. Kelley is an experienced elementary classroom teacher who was recently hired to help our students reach new heights in reading. She is our new reading intervention teacher and has been working hard to learn the ropes of our LLI reading program and all that it entails. Kelley will also be one of our after school “Power Hour” teachers helping students complete homework and boost their reading and math skills. She has been doing a great job so far so if you see Kelley around make sure to say hi.

Our new Speech Language Teacher, Charlotte Guerrero, is on board and getting immersed in our school. She is clearly a student centered teacher who takes great pride in making a positive impact with the students and families she serves. If you see Charlotte here campus, make sure to say hello.

I’ve been very impressed with the student centered approach from our new teachers and I think they will be great additions to our team.
Let’s Check in on Attendance
Parent Conferences are right around the corner which means the holiday season is right around the corner as well. This year, I have run attendance reports for each family in the school and will be asking teachers to share these letters with you at conference time. The letters indicate our school wide goal of 96.5% ADA this year, our current progress toward reaching that goal at the end of the first trimester, and the percentage of school your child has attended thus far in the school year. I will be sharing similar letters at the end of the second trimester. My hope is that with this information we can work together to reduce unnecessary absences by scheduling vacations around the school calendar, and send the message to students that attendance at school is important - just like it is on the job (since school really is their job when you think about it). I will also be organizing a “Kids Night In and Parents Night Out” fun school event in the spring for all students who have a 96.5% or higher attendance rate during the second trimester. By the way, the second trimester starts today - November 6th.
In the meantime, check out this interesting data. 5 year monthly attendance comparison. You can definitely see months with lower attendance averages. Let’s all do our best this year to stay healthy and happy!

5TH GRADE FUNDRAISING
Why does our 5th grade fundraise for 6th Grade camp? Each year, our 6th graders have a wonderful opportunity to attendoutdoor camp, regardless of their ability to pay. The students begin raising funds in 5th grade for their camp experience the next year. The cost is approximately $330 per student, with your PTA covering the balance. By fundraising, our 5th graders are reducing the amount your PTA must pay for those students who are unable to cover the costs themselves.
If you are able, we ask that you please support their efforts!
