Purpose of Phi Beta Lambda:

Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) is a professional business fraternity. The purpose of this chapter is to provide additional opportunities for college students to develop leadership and other job related skills to take into a professional business setting. Phi Beta Lambda is an integral part of the instructional program and in addition promotes a sense of civic and personal responsibility. Our chapter of Phi Beta Lambda also affiliates and aims to be an Active member of the National FBLA­PBL.

Rush Requirements:

  • Attend at least 3 of the six rush events (one must be an informational)
  • Submit thecompletedapplication to by 11:59 PM on Monday, February 6th

Pledge Process:

A brief description of the entrance requirements, pledge meetings, responsibilities, and activities relating to becoming a member of PBL is provided in the following subsections. This is a general guideline of what is to be expected. If you have any inquiries, please feel free to ask any active member.

Entrance Requirements

A prospective member must have a genuine interest in business and have a minimum GPR of 2.0. All rusheeswho attended at least 3 of the 6 rush events (the informational is a mandatory event) and have correctly completed the attached application will receive an invitation to attend a semi-formal dinner with active members of Phi Beta Lambda.Following a screening of the application and rush events, rushees may become eligible for entrance voting.Upon completion of interviews, active members must vote on rushees they believe meet or exceed the qualifications for prospective membership. Rushees will then be notified if selected to pledge PBL.

During the semester, pledges are required to meet specific goals regarding the pledge process. Dues are approximately $175 which include costs toward a pledge shirt, pledge pin, pledge book and certain events that will be put on for the pledge class.

Pledge Meetings

The pledge class will nominate officers. These officers will run the pledge meetings, which are separate from active meetings. Pledge meetings will be weekly, and the pledge board, pledge trainers and mentors must be present in order to offer support, answer questions, keep track of pledge points, and ensure the pledge agenda runs smoothly. Chairpersons for fundraising, community service, professional, and social committees will also be selected to work toward achieving pledge class goals.

Responsibilities

Each pledge is required to schedule interviews with actives on a weekly basis. Tests will be administered at certain pledge meetings covering short sections of the pledge book. Pledges are required to wear their pledge class shirt on meeting days each week, as well as professional attire on a day designated by the pledge class. Pledge pins are to be worn on outer layer of clothing at all times andmust be visible.
