Preparation of Abstracts for the 18th EML Symposium

These instructions give you guidelines for preparing abstracts for the 18th EML Symposium’s Abstract Booklet to be handed out during the Symposium’s Welcome Reception. Abstract titles should be written in uppercase and lowercase letters. Full names of authors are preferred. Put a space between authors’ initials. The submitting author is responsible for obtaining agreement of all coauthors, organizational, and any consent required from sponsor approval prior to submitting their abstract. Define all symbols used in the abstract, and once again in the text. Abstractsmust be prepared following the formatting instructionsin this file.Your ability to follow the general guidelines and specificstyleswillresultin a more professional-looking finished abstractfor the Abstract Booklet.
Fonts and Page Limit- Use only Times or Times New Roman (in Roman, bold, or italic) and Symbol fonts from the standard set of fonts. Problems have arisen in previous publications concerning Cyrillic and Asian fonts. Please do not deviate from our specified fonts and note carefully whether any have been used. All contributions should use 10-pt fonts for the normal text.Abstractsmay beno less than 200 words but no longer than a pageinlength.
Submit Abstracts Online- Abstractsmust be submitted using the on-line submission system accessedviatheEML Symposium’s website at It is the submitting author’s responsibility to obtain agreement of all coauthors, organizational, and any consent required from sponsor approval prior to submitting their abstract.Please submit theabstract in Word Doc or PDF format only.
Figures and Tables - Do not place figures and tables within the abstract unless they are unavoidable. If unavoidable, place after the abstract text. A caption must be placed below the figure being described, using 10-pt type, fully justified in the column, with no indentation.
References - Number citations consecutively in square brackets [1]. The sentence punctuation follows the brackets [2]. Multiple references [2], [3] are each numbered with separate brackets [1]-[3]. When citing a section in a book, please give the relevant page numbers [2]. In sentences, refer simply to the reference number, as in [3]. To include a footnote for the references: (Insert > Footnote).[1]
Abbreviations and Acronyms- Define abbreviations and acronyms the first time they are used in the text. Do not use abbreviations in the title unless they are unavoidable.
Non-Fluent English - Remember to check spelling. If you are not fluent in English, please get a colleague to proofread your abstract. Undecipherable English is a valid reason for rejection.
FOR ABSTRACT ONLY: It is recommended that footnotes be avoided. If you do have references for the abstract please place them within the footnote.
