COACH TRIP REETH

This month we travel to enjoy the scenic delights of Swaledale, hopeful that the “seaweed and pine cone watchers” have got it wrong. The ‘A’ party, depending on time, will start from either Grinton or Reeth, while the ‘B’ and ‘C’ parties startfrom Reeth and all finish there. Diane T. informs me that there is a jazz festival being held in the village this weekend!! Usual varied refreshments available.

A WALK STRENUOUS LINEAR 13.75/14 MILES

We follow the river to Marrick Priory (form were the Pilgimage of Grace set off in 15360) and up on to Fremington Edge. Spectacular views down Swaledale assail us as we walk along the ridge before making our way down ( skiing is a possibility if conditions are right) to Booze and Langthwaite. From here we make our way across the fields by spoil heaps of bygone mining and over grouse moors up on to Calver Hill where even more spectacular views await us and then down to Reeth and the hospitality of the Buck Inn.

B WALK MODERATE CIRCULAR 10 MILES

We leave Reeth making our way to the River Swale and over the suspension bridge, and follow the river up stream. Leaving the river behind, we now have a steady climb to MaidenCastle, which dates from the Bronze Age, then over Harker Hill. Weather permitting, we should have wonderful views of Healaugh, Calver Hill and Fremington Edge. We now pass through the village of Grinton which has a church known as the “Cathedral of the Dales”. Not far now, to the finish at Reeth. Leaders Derek and Annette

C WALK MODERATE CIRCULAR 7.5 MILES

From Reeth to Grinton, up Bleaberry Hill and down to Marrick Abbey and then to Garnless Scar. Passing High Fremington and on to White House, before returning to Reeth alongside Arkle Beck.
