This year’s District Six Summer Conference will be held at the Disney Grand Californian Hotel and Spa in Anaheim, California, from August 7-10, 2008. The Hotel is outstanding and has its own entrance into the California Adventure Park and Downtown Disney. Our opening reception will begin at 6:30pm on Thursday evening, August 7th at the Brisa Courtyard at our Hotel. There will be plenty of delicious food that will provide an entertaining experience for you, your family and your guests.
A buffet breakfast will be available on Friday and Saturday mornings prior to our meetings or before you venture out to all the parks.
The Business sessions will be held on Friday and Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Speakers for our Friday business session will include:
· Lake Coulson, NECA Nationals new Executive Director of Government Affairs. Lake will tell us a little about his background and update us on the current happenings on Capitol Hill.
· Dr. Perry Daneshgari (Dr. Perry). Dr. Perry is an adjunct Professor at the University of Michigan (M.S. Engineering) and executive MBA at Michigan State University (Enterprise Information Systems). Dr. Perry will review his recent Foundation study, which is an investigation of factors impacting growth or decline of union and open shop market share in large cities, titled, “We Built This City”.
· We will close out the business session with reports from our NECA National Committee members.
On Friday afternoon, August 8th, we will hold our annual golf tournament. This year’s tourney will take place at the beautiful Coyote Hills Golf Course. We have arranged for a shotgun start at 1:30 pm. (See registration form for details).
Friday evening is scheduled as an open evening. Please remember, Disneyland is extremely busy at this time of year, so make your reservations early.
Saturday’s business session will consist of:
· Russ Alessi, NECA President, ELECTRI International. Russ will update us on the latest research and future projects of the Foundation For Electrical Construction.
· Jim Weber from Weber and O’Brien, CPA firm. Jim has presented for our group before and does an outstanding job. Mr. Weber’s topic will be on Succession and Family Business Planning. We have allotted two hours of the morning business session for his presentation, so Jim can do more than a short overview of these very important topics.
· We will close our business session with any outstanding or new NECA business.
Our closing reception and dinner is scheduled for Saturday evening August 9, 2008 and will be held at the Trillium Room and Terrace. The reception will begin at 6:00pm with dinner to follow at 7:00pm. During the evening, we will enjoy great food, drinks, and presentation of awards and hold our annual ECPAC drawing. Also, sometime during our closing event we will be visited by a very magical Disney guest, so make sure you are there.
As an added bonus, because we are staying at a Disney property we have special hours and can access discounted theme park tickets on-line (see registration form for details).
This is sure to be a memorable event that you won’t want to miss. Please make your reservations early! Send your registration form in by June 22, 2008, but please make your room reservations as soon as possible as rooms are limited and go fast at this time of year.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Very truly yours,
Mel A. Buttrum
NECA - District Six Vice President
