II. Political Cartoons

Using local and national newspapers locate and clip out ten political cartoons based on Louisiana (2), national (4), and international (4) events. Tape each cartoon to a sheet of loose-leaf paper, indicate the date cartoon ran. Write one full sentence (8-12 words) explaining what the cartoon means to you.

III. Internet Political Cartoons

Using www.cagle.com, locate and print out ten political cartoons based on: Louisiana (1), national (2), international (2), education (2), sports (2), and entertainment (1) events. Tape each cartoon to a sheet of loose-leaf paper; indicate the newspaper the cartoon originally ran in. Write one full sentence (8-12 words) explaining what the cartoon means to you.

IV. Louisiana Preamble vs. United States Preamble

Locate a copy of both the Louisiana and U.S. Constitutions. Hand write both Preambles on separate sheets of loose-leaf paper. Compare the two. On a third sheet explain the differences and tell why you think the Louisiana constitution change the wording.

V. Acrostic Mini-Poster

Acrostic: A poem or series of lines in which certain letters, usually the first in each line, form a name, motto, or message when read in sequence.

Using half sheet (22xI4) of poster board, create an acrostic describing Louisiana State Government. [Example: Write the word "Executive" down the left side of the poster. Use descriptive words or points about the executive branch to fill in the acrostic.) Then illustrate each letter on the poster with small related drawings or pictures from magazines or newspapers. Other possible words: Legislative, Judicial, Police Jury, Calcasieu Schools, Gov. Blanco, Willie Mount, Randy Roach, Elcie Guillory.
