PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1RELATED DOCUMENTS

1.3PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Retain paragraph below with "Seismic Qualification Certificates" Paragraph in "Informational Submittals" Article for projects requiring seismic design. Model building codes and ASCE/SEI7 establish criteria for buildings subject to earthquake motions. Verify requirements of authorities having jurisdiction.

  1. Seismic Performance: Commercial domestic-water heaters shall withstand the effects of earthquake motions determined according to [ASCE/SEI7] <Insert requirement>.

Retain subparagraph below to define the term "withstand" as it applies to this Project. Definition varies with type of building and occupancy and is critical to valid certification. Option is used for essential facilities where equipment must operate immediately after an earthquake.

  1. The term "withstand" means "the unit will remain in place without separation of any parts from the device when subjected to the seismic forces specified[and the unit will be fully operational after the seismic event]."

1.4ACTION SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Data: For each type and size of domestic-water heater indicated.[Include rated capacities, operating characteristics, electrical characteristics, and furnished specialties and accessories.]

1.5INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

Retain first paragraph below if required by seismic criteria applicable to Project. Coordinate with Sections specifying mechanical vibration, supports, and seismic controls. See ASCE/SEI7 for certification requirements for equipment and components.

  1. Seismic Qualification Certificates: For fuel-fired, domestic-water heaters, accessories, and components, from manufacturer.
  2. Basis for Certification: Indicate whether withstand certification is based on actual test of assembled components or on calculation.
  3. Dimensioned Outline Drawings of Equipment Unit: Identify center of gravity and locate and describe mounting and anchorage provisions.
  4. Detailed description of equipment anchorage devices on which the certification is based and their installation requirements.

Retain first paragraph below for product certificates from manufacturers.

  1. Product Certificates: For each type of commercial, gas-fired, domestic-water heater, from manufacturer.

Retain first paragraph below if plumbing codes for Project area require domestic-water heaters to be independent-testing-agency certified. Verify availability for units retained.

  4. Warranty: Sample of special warranty.

1.6CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

  1. Operation and Maintenance Data: For fuel-fired, domestic-water heaters to include in emergency, operation, and maintenance manuals.

1.7QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA70, by a qualified testing agency, and marked for intended location and application.
  2. ASHRAE/IESNA Compliance: Fabricate and label fuel-fired, domestic-water heaters to comply with ASHRAE/IESNA90.1.
  3. ASME Compliance:
  4. Where ASME-code construction is indicated, fabricate and label commercial, domestic-water heater storage tanks to comply with applicable ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
  5. Where ASME-code construction is indicated, fabricate and label commercial, finned-tube, domestic-water heaters to comply with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code: SectionIV.

1.8COORDINATION

  1. Coordinate sizes and locations of concrete bases with actual equipment provided.

1.9WARRANTY

When warranties are required, verify with Owner's counsel that special warranties stated in this article are not less than remedies available to Owner under prevailing local laws.

  1. Special Warranty: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair or replace components of fuel-fired, domestic-water heaters that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period.
  2. Failures include, but are not limited to, the following:
  3. Structural failures.
  4. Faulty operation of controls.
  5. Deterioration of metals, metal finishes, and other materials beyond normal use.

Verify available warranties and warranty periods for units and components with manufacturers listed in Part2 articles.

  1. Warranty Periods: Limited warranty is effective as of the date of installation or 6 months after the date of manufacture, whichever is first.
  2. Commercial, Finned Tube Type, Gas-Fired, Domestic-Water Heaters:

1)Heat Exchanger: Ten years, prorated in years 6 through 10.

2)Controls and Other Components: One year.

2.1COMMERCIAL, WATER TUBE TYPE, GAS-FIRED, DOMESTIC-WATER HEATERS

  1. Commercial, Water Tube Type, Gas-Fired, Domestic-Water Heaters (1,600 – 4,000 Mbh):
  2. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Laars Heating Systems Company; MagnaTherm MGV or comparable product by one of the following:

  10. Heat Exchanger: Straight stainless steel finned tubes with stainless steel headers.
  11. Connections: Factory fabricated of materials compatible with heater. Attach to heater before testing.

Model LUHE-100T-199 is 98.5 percent. Model LUHE-100T-250 is 97.0 percent. Model LUHE-100T-300 is 92.0 percent. Model LUHE-100T-399 is 93.0 percent.

The features and attributes below may be revised or omitted if domestic-water heater otherwise complies with requirements for performance.

  1. Storage-Tank Construction:

Retain the "ASME-Code Construction" subparagraph below for installations that require ASME certified product.
