eComPress – The Complete Electronic Publishing System
Developed by Eurofield Information Solutions (EIS), eComPress is a complete electronic publishing solution designed to facilitate the secure sale and delivery of electronic reference publications via various mediums including Internet download, e-mail or CD-ROM. eComPress has recently been complimented by the recent release of Web eComPress, a powerful server based publishing solution, with the same user interface and functionality as eComPress, and designed to be IP compatible and operate on a web server.
Fully compatible with all versions of Microsoft Windows, eComPress takes documents containing text, tables and graphics and automatically compresses, encodes and indexes them.
eComPress further protects the integrity of the content in the delivery process by embedding a 32bit CRC in each publication at mastering. This is then recalculated on installation and compared with the embedded one, ensuring all publications are complete and not corrupted, truncated or contaminated in the delivery process.
As everything within each publication, including all words, numbers and alpha-numerics are indexed in the compressed encoded form, there is no need to create any key-word lists. eComPress supports logical searching with any number of single (?) or multiple (*) character wildcards. The dynamic Tree Table of Contents provides clear and accurate navigation around any eComPress publication. Extremely fast rendering ensures instant information retrieval.
Users can readily annotate eComPress publications with User Notes. Text, graphics, documents, email and web addresses can be easily attached to any text as a User Note. All annotations are transcribed under the same headings to new and revised material in publication updates. Book mark sections of the publication allow quick and easy reference to important and regularly referred to parts of the publication. Global Notes can provide an additional level of annotation by allowing notes to be provided by authorised authors (via the server) and shared by users on the network as a compliment to personal user notes. Unlike other subscriber-based services, the intellectual property remains that of the user.
eComPress provides a powerful publication locking facility that is ideal for secure online sale and delivery, with the Authorisation Key only made available upon receipt of a secure online payment. Copyright protection mechanisms and various different licencing strategies are also available and can be tailored to suit the publisher’s requirements.
As eComPress publications come inclusive with their own viewer, the publications are complete, always compatible with the viewer, and no additional software needs to be purchased.
